Sources at Israeli Embassy in Washington say negative representation of Jewish state on television series like 'Veep,' 'House of Cards' justifies 'conspiracy theories about the Israeli and Jewish control of American politics'

Popular American television shows are presenting Israel in a highly critical manner, sources in Israeli Embassy in Washington say, expressing their concern that the negative characterization will badly affect the Jewish state's image among viewers.

One of the recent episodes of HBO comedy series "Veep," starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, focused on the Middle East conflict: The US vice president's daughter, a college student who has a boyfriend of Iranian descent, slams Israel in an essay based on Oscar-nominated film "5 Broken Cameras."

The article undermines the relationship between the White House and the Jewish lobby, forcing the vice president to schedule a damage control interview. But the setting is quite unhelpful: She is seen discussing the friendship between America and the Jewish state with a pig roast in the background.

"These series present Israel as a country which one should be very careful not to offend, and that anyone daring to criticize it is reprimanded by the Jewish lobby," a senior state official says. "This justifies all conspiracy theories about the Israeli and Jewish control of American politics."

AIPAC need to get right on this and have an israeli or jewish censor put on the board that regulates these matters. maybe we can even get a law passed that prohibits any depiction of israel in anything less than a praiseworthy way, somewhere along the lines of holocaust denial laws.

just curious, but what undermines and creates a negative impression of israel and the jewish lobby more...these TV shows or the israeli and jewish reaction to these TV shows?

hey, i have a plan, maybe if israel would quit abusing human rights, commiting war crimes, illegally occupying land that the palestinians hope to build their state on, and, in general, acting like the ass end of the countries of the world, maybe they would be portrayed more favourably.

just an idea.

Have you ever thought, Seal, that people are biased against Israel because it is a Jewish state. People should start talking about the abuses toward others in other countries in the Middle East and elsewhere if they really want to be fair. Do we ever see any documentaries on T.V. about China occupying Tibet? Do we ever see documentaries on T.V. about what is now happening to the Christians in Nigeria or Egypt. We certainly didn't see anything about what happened to the Christians in the Sudan. Perhaps if so many in the world didn't need a scapegoat or weren't anti-Semitic like you, the world would be a fairer place.

You see? You sound as if you have drank the kool aid yourself! Israel isn't abusing human rights. Hamas is. That's first. Second, Israel isn't commiting any war crimes. Hamas is. Next up. That is Israeli land and before you were a twinkle in your mothers eye the Palestinians - were not known as Palestinians but arabs! There was no such thing as a Palestinian prior to 1960! The place was a ghost town prior to Jews returning back to their homeland ( ISRAEL ) so who the heck are these people today?! Hamas will tell you! They are no longer palestinians! They claim those died off! HA! So what is this? The grandfathered in plan or what? They died waiting in refuge camps because their own leaders wouldn't allow them to accept the homes, apts provisions Israelis were ready to give them! Whatever they did recieve the terrorists burnt to the ground. It is a sad case but it isn't Israels fault. You've taken the propaganda bait hook, line and sinker I can see. '

I think portraying Israel and the Christian religion in a bad light these days has become a huge trend in Hollywood. I have noticed in many movies lately there is one or the other actor responding - you are not a christian, are you?! Yes, Hollywood is working hard to depict Christians as crazy, violent, hillbillies, they have a list..

Meh, this whole post and article are non events. These shows wouldn't make money if they didn't exaggerate everything, that is the premise for any good comedy. Other than that Julia and her husband are both Zionist Jews and decent down-to-earth people whom I have had the pleasure of knowing.
