What does everyone think of this show?

Is it a modern Shakespearean drama comedy or maybe tragedy, such talent and so many nuts. Anyone who thinks they understand human nature should watch it as it presents a kaleidoscope of behaviors. Family support at its best and also at its most blind and some incredible individual effort. Some honestly believe they have talent when they have none, some think a gadget or gimmick will help, others just play a game in which they want their 15 minutes. Others are so crazy they don't suspect their own craziness. Surely men are all mad when dream enters the picture. Simon somehow rises above it simply because he is perceived as being more upfront, more honest. It is that rare stage where honesty has admirers. Shouldn't we all be truthful or maybe we just can't be in the real world, thus we admire someone who performs in a role where he can be upfront. Kierkegaard once wrote that if we were to reveal even a small bit of our inner thoughts most would think us crazy. But wait, right after Idol comes a show where some reveal their deepest hidden thoughts...only in America.

Off politics for a bit.

I think one of the greatest moments in TV history was when the phone salesman appeard on the British version and sang opera.

It seriously makes me tear up

That was great, I thought one of Daughtry's performances matched that and that is rare.

Your review of this show is pretty fitting. I don't watch the show on a consistent basis, but when I have watched, I have been entertained by all the shenanigans. Entertainment is its major value, along with serving as a spring board to launch a few musical careers that might not have otherwise occurred. It's like "Star Search" in that regard.
