American Facism is on it's way

Nationalism pushed hard ("patriotism")

Promoting war

Huge gov't programs to make the lower and middle class people dependent on them for work

Gov't regulated economy

Bought off politicians, gov't doing the bidding of a select few corporations.

None of this stuff is new, it's been going on for decades, and we americans have been trained into believing these are good things.

In this particular case, everyone goddamned warned the GOP about what would happen if they followed through on Cheney's theory of the Unitary Executive. Bush, under Cheney's advice, built the Office of the President up to probably the most powerful it's been since FDR. And then promptly lost it to a Democrat.

Under Obama, any chance of rolling that back disappeared. He spent a lot of his campaign Bush bashing, but once he was in office he was essentially GWB's third term on a lot of the issues Bush used to build up the Office.

I don't think we're seeing fascism under Obama yet, but there is some troubling stuff going on. I think that we're probably closer to fascism than ever before though.

Of course, I also don't think it matters who you elect in 2012. Obama has shown he is NOT giving up the expanded powers he got from Bush's efforts. Anyone who thinks Romney is going to roll those powers back is just stupid. Romney is no small government Con, he's another big government Lib.

Where I'm really scared is the 2016 and 2020 elections. If Romney loses I think there's a chance the 2016 election will feature some pretty extreme folks on both sides. I'm flat out terrified of what happens if Jindal runs in in 2016 and WINS. Read up on Louisiana right now. We're heading back towards Huey P. Long days here.

Is there a requirement that back taxes actually be owed, or just alleged to be owed.

God help us all if Obama gets a second term. American facism is well on it's way. Sign of things to come:

Democrat leaders Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid have co-sponsored a bill which passed the senate 75 to 25 "senate bill 1813" allows for the US govt to deny or revoke a US Passport to any US citizen that owes back taxes or is in collection with the IRS. The bill is now headed to the House where it's expected to get stiffer Republican opposition. Just imagine how many Americans currently owe taxes are in tax collection status with the IRS. It also means that the US govt can legally (and unconstitutionally) treat a US citizen who may have encountered economic problems and not able to pay their taxes, like a common criminal, and therefore preventing that person from ever leaving the US. What has this country come to? Shades of China, North Korea, and Communist USSR. Brings chills to your spine.

If this doesn't make you vote for anybody but Obama in 2012, then nothing will.

75 Dems in the Senate these days?

Ever, ever?
No, the bill is actually attached to a highway funding bill, and the shameless Democrats have attached this Passport bill to it. The Senate being more corrupt than the House and a lot of backroom dealing voted for their own skins rather than the people. Does it not bother you that the govt. can now take away your right to travel if you owe taxes? Do you know how many millions of Americans and industries will suffer if this bill passes?

Thank you, Democrat traitors.

The highway funding bill is seen as essential by the Republicans, that is to say to not let it be delayed into the next congress in 2013. The two bills coming out of both houses will be negotiated in conference (once the house passes it's version). That explains why the Rs in the Senate would go along with this. Their vote is about process, not about policy.

I imagine it'll be allegedly in order to prevent flight from tax collection.

Considering you now need a passport to even get into Canada, this is a bit troubling. Sorting out things with the IRS is pretty difficult even at the best of times.

That's what communists do. When they need you they will keep you in the country, when they don't want you they will cull or purge you.

Obama is also a fascist in an oxymoronic sense.

Obamafuck is a socialist and a fascist (yeah that's fucked up) - I call Obama's agenda "Obamunism."

He has taken every play out of the authoritarian handbook.

Preventing a person from traveling due to his / her inability to pay their taxes is one of the most dangerous propositions and infringement of our rights that I have ever heard of. A person who for whatever reason has not been able to pay their taxes on time, is automatically treated like a criminal (people with warrants cannot get a passport). This is the kind of stuff that China, Iran, and other oppressive non Democratic countries impose, not the US. Just the fact that the Democrats proposed such an outrageous thing tells you that they, not the Republicans, thing of the American public as their slaves. Their intentions can't get any more transparent than this, in my opinion.

Which other laws do you recommend we not prosecute?

:eusa_eh:
It's not about prosecuting any law. It's about government over-reach and infringement on our basic rights. People that are suffering economically and cannot pay their mortgage or other debts and expenses, including taxes, are not breaking any law that needs to be prosecuted. Neither are those who go out of business, loose their job, or have a catastrophic medical situation. What is being proposed is treating someone who incurs a debt such as owing taxes as a criminal who might escape. Why should it be the government then? Why not just lock up anybody who owes money to banks for loans or mortgages? How about if you owe me money and I take you to court and you loose, I get to keep your passport until you pay me back? Or perhaps if you didn't pay for your car payments, the loan company gets to revoke your passport.

Not being an ass, I promise.

What rights are being infringed?
