America Needs Smart Trade Not Free Trade!

dear, an open competitive market is one without tariffs to protect and cripple our industries, without trade wars and depression, and without real wars like WW2 more likely.

Edward Baiamonte, the international trade policy as described by Wikipedia’s “Import certificate” article, is not “pure” free trade but it certainly is competitive trade.

How would USA adopting the Import Certificate policy protect AND cripple a USA industry? Which industry? How would Import Certificates cause a depression?
You haven’t been able to logically explain your foolish notions that depressions are caused by tariffs or that they were responsible for World War Two; how did they do that?
You cannot seem to logically explain the “hows and whys” of anything you post.

Edward Baiamonte, a trade war is not armed conflict.

Import certificate policy would be of net advantage to any nation that would otherwise suffer chronic trade deficits of goods. Trade between two nations that have unilaterally adopted import Certificate policies would be of greater net benefit to both of those nations. Why would you believe that would cause a trade war and how would that conflict be carried out?

Nations that adopt an Import Certificate policy are much less vulnerable to trading mischief than are nations that practice pure free trade.
Any entity that attempts to undermine the foreign trade of an Import Certificate nation would do little harm to that nation but they would much more likely harm themselves to the extent of the harm they tried to inflict upon others. This retribution would occur due to normal market behaviors even if our government does nothing proactive.

[USA has to failed to proactively protected our nation’s and our enterprises interests or have raised issues that were less valid but were raised only to placate major corporate interests. Our trade agreements specify a panel or a specific world court to adjudicate those differences. USA’s positions are generally not upheld by those decisions].

I regret your apparent inability to logically explain the “hows and whys” of anything you post.

free trade with China is perhaps are greatest foreign policy achievement. Republicans made the worlds biggest country peace loving and capitalist. Starting trade wars with them would be suicidal and 100% liberal.

A Chinese student once described his country’s globalization strategy to me. China, he said, opened a window to the world economy, but placed a screen on it. The country got the fresh air it needed — nearly 700 million people have been lifted from extreme poverty since the early 1980s — but kept mosquitoes out. …
China pushed exports, but it also placed barriers on imports to protect employment in state enterprises and required foreign investors to transfer know-how to domestic companies.

Edward is opposed to the concept of Import Certificates. He provides us with an example of what we can achieve if we better emulate China.

He’s opposed to the concept of Import Certificates; that’s a policy more substantially markets rather than government determinations because it’s not “pure” free trade.
He’s a proponent of China as an alternative example of more government rather than market determinations because the Republicans opened USA-China trade.

(Republicans would have effectively prevented such a foreign policy change if any Democratic administration would have attempted do it.)
