America must increase Taxes now.!, or suffer the consequences in the Future.

I disagree. With a flat 10% sales tax the fellow who buys the new Ferrari will pay fair tax when compared to the sales tax paid by the fellow behind the wheel of a used Hyundai.

Oh, I thought you were suggesting that the rich were paying too little in taxes, not too much. Today someone who buys a Ferrari will pay much more in tax than 10%. From a federal perspective you have an import tariff, luxury tax and a “gas guzzler” tax. In addition, if you buy the Ferrari here in Seattle you would have an 8.7% sales tax. So a 10% flat sales tax would be a windfall to the Ferrari buyer and (in Seattle) an additional 1.3% tax for the Hyundai buyer.

Or would the 10% sales tax go on top of the existing taxes? If that’s the case I can’t see how adding an additional VAT to the existing taxes would be a simpler system. Would there be any tax incentive to buy a domestic car, or would we charge the same tax on products that are imported and produced in the US/NAFTA?

If the US instituted a 10% consumption tax, I would just advise people to drive to Canada (Or Mexico) for all their shopping needs. We see that here in Washington as we have a State Sales Tax and Oregon does not. If you lived within an hour of the state line, would you by that plasma TV at the best buy in Vancouver, WA or Portland OR?

I would like to go back to my Housing example, here is a simple question, would the sale of a house be taxed?

I hate it when people critique something without offering a solution, so here is mine. We remove all taxes on income & property and institute a 98% estate tax on all estates valued at more than $1,000,000. After all, you can’t take it with you.

part of the reason for America's econmoic troubles is the fact that the government has diminished resources from all these years of illogical tax cuts, in a world of increased costs for many goods and services.

I suggest an immediate accross the board tax increase on all Americans.
I mean after all, how else are we going to pay for all those $700 billion dollar and $250 billion dollar bailout plans?.The Government will carry a huge deficeit, if we do not raise Taxes now.
The alternative if America does not increase Taxes now, will be an even worse economic catastrophe, at some point in the future. With both the Government, and the private sector crashing economically.

or....cut spending instead.

Taxes and spending cuts won't matter if we don't decide to get serious about putting Americans back to work and paying them living wages, folks.

The idea that all our problems come from bad tax policies is one of the LIES that the Democrats and Republicans keep using to play one class of us against the other.

The people who are being most badly abused in this tax system are the middle and upper middle classes.

Small businesses, and well educated people who have good jobs are paying way too much money in taxes.

Of course they are, they're paying the taxes that the superwealthy are not paying.

The poor can't pay those taxes because they don't make enough money to pay them.

And of course everyone pays for those stupid tax policies as the value of the dollar craps out, too.

But if we truly want to fix the American economy, just making the taxes fair won't solve the basic problem.

FAR TOO MANY WORKING AMERICANS are no longer making enough money to keep this economy going.

Income taxes with bullshit deductions that require hiring accountants and lawyers to understand and comply with is regressive, that's what's 'regressive'.

Making it simple makes it fair.

A national sales tax, would have to be much higher than 10 percent to bring in the same revenue as the income tax. Numbers thrown around by Huckabee and supporters of this tax are closer to 30. The extra 12 percent wouldn't make up the difference either. This fair tax also wouldn't be fair to the middle and lower class as they would spend a much larger portion of their income in taxes, than the upper class.

It would need to be supplemented with a business income tax, and perhaps an individual income tax too, at least to start.

I think fair would be to let businesses earn $10,000 tax free for every employee on the payroll and pay 15% on every dime after that, using non-executive payroll and benefits as the only deduction.

If that proves insufficient, add an individual tax of no more than 10%, but let everyone earn like $500,000 tax free.

Shit, paying taxes in this country should be a goal in the market place... A status of affluence that has been achieved.

How many of the $500,000 + wage earners do not have education, roads and bridges, airports and the other infrastructure government is supposed to be maintaining to thank for the opportunity to earn that kind of living...

Fair is fair. Making it simple makes it fair.

.

True enough. Fortunately history shows that the market place can be moved in specific directions through manipulation of the tax code. If payroll is the one and only tax deduction for business, there is their incentive to create jobs - especially in researching new products and ways to make stuff.

thank you for your replies and responses,
allow yourself to view this matter from a
social perspective rather than from a personal
perhaps read the posted emails again and
research so statistics and projections,

so many people around the world and in particular
throughout whole of asia live now in mega cities of
between 9 - 18 million inhabitance,

the world does not consist of uninhabited deserts
of middle usa where men are free to ride for days
shooting bisons to survive, allow it to be said the
popular and published and perpetuated mind sets
about social dynamics and economics are outdated,

at times so very badly that us citizens should not
be surprised about the dismayed and enraged reactions
from many states and nations from around the world,
the wild west image is history,

the ethics which is the dictate
for daily routines in the USA
in so many subtle ways and
which can be summed up by
'the winner takes all,
the losers are left to fall
and all agree such down & outs
need to be left to rot on their own'

such simply does not wash anymore,

what is so difficult to understand
about the above proposal?,
it is a matter
for each and for everyone to find the
strength and the determination to
think this through more thoroughly,

these proposals will be welcomed by
millions for the benefit of the whole
society - or does your mind doubt even that,

these proposals are NOT going to undermine the
flexibility nor the vibrancy of the corporate sectors
nor of industries, nor of businesses nor of the trades
in cataclysmic ways as the popular disaster movies
over decades have conditioned so many to think,
the government employees would feel upset if some
would doubt their professionalism and integrity,

there are regions across the USA where the populations
can not generate economic growth in spectacular ways,
but the social truth and medical facts are that these
populations need proper health care, need a minimum of
financial security - or is such a notion not acceptable -
once adopted sensible these policies will give a legitimate
security and stability to whole communities, regions, etc.
allowing for a more wide spread social peace and calm,
or is such a goal, such an achievement not registering at all,

the plain, simple, down to earth fact is that the strongest
European economies have developed a very sophisticated,
a well funded, a well taxed and ALSO a well paid workforce
and would you believe it – they live it, there are happy with it
because the needs and the common sense and human financial
requirements are better met than for example in the USA,
where the corporate sector seems to have the upper hand,
where public ethics is completely absorbed and hypnotised
by the rights and demands of the executives stratas and where,
in comparison, the little men and women do not really count,

why do the various US universities and indeed the
US government not arrange for national states and for
EU government officials to visit the USA and to give
many talks across the prairies and indeed in the many cities
on the European social survival model which allow millions
to live in greater social and financial peace than any US media
has ever talked about, please, please, please, understand to the
Europeans the social model and practices so drummed by the
US establishment, are, well, rather carefree and indifferent,
the point is, the US society can develop a more fairer ethics,
because a more caring social ethics, not having a nationwide
health care provisions for all citizens conveys so much to the
European mindsets that it is better not to elaborate otherwise
the growing sense of shame across the USA would flood
too severely, please, move on and grow into a sense of social justice,
the US establishment so far seems to believe and to want to drum only
the ethics of personal justice for the individual, please try, you can do it,

many have shown that a greater social justice and financial fairness and care
can be realized, established and sustained over many decades and nobody needs
to fear that their business instincts so focused to create new opportunities and new wealth will be undermined, please invite the European governments to elaborate,

A tax increase will only work if it is coupled with big spending cuts from the govt. The last administration and the current one have shown no interest in cutting spending. Their interest lies in growing the govt, growing entitlement programs, increasing regulations and completely ignoring the will of the people. Why should the American people make sacrifices that the govt is unwilling to do?

The Banks already paid back the bailouts. The government is making money on bailouts & throwing money away on Fannie, Freddie, unions, autos & stimulus slush fund. The government does not produce many goods and services but it employs 1/3 of the country to rule over us citizens & pays them twice as much as the private sector bleeding the citizens dry. The people who are worried about governments diminished resources is the 1/3rd of the country employed by it. I hope the government implodes. It is an albatross around the private citizens neck. Governments diminished resources equals private sectors increased resources. This colossal governments collapse can not happen fast enough. The citizens of the USA thrived from 1776 to 1913. There was no Federal tax during this period. Now the government regulations & taxes have a strangle hold on us. Government does not abide by the rules placed upon us subjects.

Government is the Problem!!!
