And where did they land?....New York and Virginia!...To the tune of over $20,000 per employee in subsidies!....Two states (and DC) overrun with leftists!

Where is the love from the lolberals for "the little guy"?

Where is the hate from the lolberals about corporate welfare?

Where is the disgust from lolberals about the mythical "corporate capture"?

Where is all the lolberal concern over "affordable housing"?

What about cities like Detroit or Akron, where they really could use the jobs?

Bezos is one of the richest men on the globe!...Who needs more money?...*shut up, he supports democrats!*

Has to be getting pretty crowded out in that tall grass, eh libbies?....lmao

For Amazon to have numerous cities bow and scrap just so they can pick the two obvious choices was a huge dick move. I think they made quite a few political enemies with this stunt.

Bingo.

And they also brought their operations to two already grossly overcrowded cities, just so they could be nearer to the politicians that they'll be paying off....WITH THEIR OWN MONEY!

If you want to know what "taxpayer funded political campaigns" looks like, this is it.

Total hypocrisy. I have no problem with a private company working government to competitively get what they want. Who knows if the job creation, and economic benefits Amazon brings will outweigh the cost to the TAXPAYER. We are all subsidizing Amazon, but that's the way it works today. Look at sports stadiums. Same deal for the franchise.

My city was on the shortlist and I was entirely opposed to giving Amazon the store just so we could win this alleged competition. I am tired of local and state governments giving huge breaks and incentives to companies swimming in massive profits. My region did the same thing with Shell to build a cracker plant in Beaver County. It’s bullshit.

The irony of this is that Amazon just helped the socialist wing of the Democratic Party. Already the newly elected socialist woman whose name I keep forgetting is raging on about what a joke this is, talking about why this money should be spent on subways and infrastructure for New Yorkers. As much as I despise socialism, on this issue she is right. Bezos is worth over $100B dollars personally, the corporation much more, and taxpayers have to pay him for jobs that primarily sell cheap, useless Chinese products?

Going against Amazon right now is politically popular.

I was way ahead of you:

Reason number 483 why I oppose tax expenditures.

We have an insane system that is far from a level playing field.

Yeah, how about those sports stadiums?
Parking lot operators, hot dog vendors and billionaire team owners profit from taxpayer financed mega stadiums but the average tax payer? Not so much.
We still live in the age of Robber Barons.

The only thing we can do if we are against these very profitable corps getting taxpayer subsidies is to make it known to our state, and local representatives we don't see the Cost/Benefit outcome as positive. Of course they can cook the books, and show us all kinds of Pro Formas with projections justifying this stuff, but I doubt it ever is even a wash. I may be wrong though.

Is it any wonder the Democrats have trouble attracting voters from rural America with this sniveling attitude on display here?

Access to software talent.

Software people don’t want to live in Akron and Detroit.

But Amazon did what many large corporations do. Corporations play off jurisdictions against each other all the time. Amazon was just really high profile about it.

Amazon has a fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder wealth. If states and cities want to bid against each other for jobs, then Amazon has a legal obligation to extract the best deal possible.

Capitalism 101.

Hate the game, not the player.

Rural America voted for massive tax cuts for Amazon and its owner. Then Amazon decided to being a massive amount of business to the place I live. Rural America should be fine with it. I’m sure some scraps will “trickle down” there.
