Thank you. I have an original oath of loyalty from a former Confederate soldier dated JUNE, ___ 1865. The day in June has faded, as has the city; one can read N. Carolina though. I CANNOT scan the document as it is enclosed in heavy plastic to prevent further damage. Also, one great photograph of a battlefield I think I could scan, but I also fear damage.
 
Great pics. I was stationed at BUMED, the Navy's medical headquarters in DC. The command occupies the former Naval Observatory. My office was also used by the observatory superintendent Matthew Maury when he was there. While in command, he sat in my (our) office and penned his letter of resignation to President Lincoln. Maury was a Virginian and resigned from the U.S. Navy at the beginning of the War Between the States. A copy of the letter is on a plaque outside the door. This is the building today and take away the parking spots and car and this is also what the building looked like back then.
