also not amused are flight attendents. Were they offended by Letterman's slur? "Yes – and I'm speaking as a MALE flight attendant here," said Ken Kyle, president of the 1,200-member Denver chapter of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA United Airlines. "We've fought the TV stereotype for so many years, and quite honestly, it's objectionable when you put it in light of (flight attendants' heroic actions during) 9/11 and more recently, the professionalism of the US Airways attendants during the emergency landing on the Hudson River."

Jokes and sexual innuendos take a long-term toll, said Kyle."They desensitize the public to the very important safety role we fill. Sure, we are sensitive to any comment we believe demeans a job we feel is important, especially the safety aspect of it." They also hit attendants in the pocket book, he said. "We face a lot of pressures – from the public and from the corporate level -- and to minimize and devalue (our) job classification makes it much more difficult for us to fight for a pay raise."

She does have that slutty flight attendant look. That isn't saying flight attendants look slutty... Her clothes are just a little too tight, too short, too leathery, etc.

She looked a lot better in the clothes the campaign bought her.

Letterman's comments were not funny and the backlash against them is justified.

Women are their own worst enemy. Hopefully when you are discriminated against because of your sex appeal or lack their of...some other women will be right there telling you to STFU and take it like the "slut" you are.:cuckoo:

Yes, and notice how the board's tolerant left are now okay with the flight attendants being called "slutty". They will twist themselves into pretzels defending their lame spokes people and their stupid hateful remarks no matter what. Stupid sheep.

I've already agreed and agree that Letterman's and others jokes are in poor taste and over the top. But consider the silliness of this. We have extreme unemployment, sinking wages, jobs flying away to the cheapville and this is the main topic for many people. Add to that the stupid who call Obama a Muslim, not a citizen, a socialist, and [fill in favorite here] and you come to know why this may not only be the dumbest generation but the dumbness may actually be contiguous.

"A new barbarism, illiteracy and impoverishment of language, new kinds of poverty, merciless remodeling of opinion by media, immiseration of the mind, obsolescence of the soul. Massified, standardizing modes, in every area of life, relentlessly re-enact the actual control program of modernity. Capitalism did not create our world; the machine did." Jean-François Lyotard

You miss one of the larger points to this debate:

If this had been a similar comment made by a conservative entertainer against the daughter of a liberal family, the leftist media would be cycling it 24/7 as a sign of hate, sexism , et.

To date, the media's response has been mild offense at Letterman, countered with continued admonitions of Palin. To her credit, Palin has stood her ground and is not allowing the media to run her over - which if you see the Lauer interview, that clearly was what was intended. Governor Palin brushed Lauer's attempts to defend Letterman aside and made her point with the kind of strength and conviction of a mother first, and a politician second - which frankly, was refreshing to see.

And so, we have yet another example of a defunct media. It attempts to defend the indefensible - to not report news, but rather to shape its tone and its direction.

You are correct - the United States faces a myriad of issues right now, and we have a presdident and a Democrat Congress not being held to account for their solutions - and that is a dangerous situation for all Americans.

Enough is enough - and this incident between Palin and Letterman is representative of the frustrations of a great many of us sick and tired of the media double-standard.

Well done Governor Palin!

You must have lost your mind or at least that part which contains memory. Hillary Clinton probably received worse criticism from conservatives 10 thousand times over. Carter's daughter and the Clinton's daughter too received criticism. You guys take the hypocrite's cake.

You are being dishonest...

And some of the worst attacks against Hillary Clinton came during her campaign vs Obama. One of her own campaing advisors had to quit because the Obama campaing layed out the race cared (yet again) against Clinton Inc. (Very unfairly - and while Letterman is now branded a bitter sexist - that is still better than being labeled an outright racist, which is what Obama Inc attempted to do repeatedly vs the Clintons...)

In the matter of media taste, Letterman's attacks set the bar even lower - and Americans, the majority who have not lost their sensibilities, had enough.

Palin showed true strength and conviction in the aftermath of Letterman's sexist rant, and has garnered much deserved appreciation and respect for it.
