When I was in 5th grade I was so dumb I was a hero.

Still, I was smarter than most of my teachers.

But then this was Southern California in the 70s.

I had bilingual math course, I kid you not. This is not a joke. Southern California put me through a bilingual math course.

The theory was that the Mexican immigrants and English speaking students could learn math together and both would learn each other's language.

What do you think happened?

No one learned anything, math, language or even respect.
