In recent days, the White House has rolled out a they-did-it-too justification for executive actions, citing Eisenhower, Reagan and George H.W. Bush as precedents.

And then, for good measure, his speechwriters dusted off President George W. Bush's 2006 speech on immigration, and built Obama's remarks around it. When Bush spoke from the Oval Office — to broadcast networks that didn't give Obama the same courtesy — a Republican House had passed an immigration bill stalled in the Republican Senate.

Oh give it up. The news stations knows nobody watches his ugly speeches anymore. there have been so many people got bored and would rather watch paint dry. The stations are there to make money. Last I heard they weren't "required" to bow to Obama. but you can cry us river over it...Obama will be thrilled he still has a few members in his Cult

The networks have turned him down several times. He always wants prime time. He always wants all the networks. They are tired of it. This is what Hugo Chavez did.

Fewer and fewer people even care what he has to say anymore. Everyone knows it's a lie.

You should have read it, or had someone explain it to you. He said:
"The House has passed an immigration bill. The Senate should act by the end of this month so we can work out the differences between the two bills, and Congress can pass a comprehensive bill for me to sign into law."

This from a website that oozes sarcasm. What they meant to say is you got to play by the rules if you want to play. To expect the Obama White House staff to be competent is asking way too much.

"This long-awaited, politically-charged speech from the President of the United States about one of the nation's most pressing challenges will not be aired live by the major broadcast networks.

Apparently because the White House announced the speech on Facebook, but didn't ask the networks for airtime. So the networks are unfriending the President in real time for this impeachable breach of protocol."

NBC & CBS carried the speech. OP must huff paint or sumthin'.........

Nope!
You're mistaken, none of the networks not ABC, not NBC, not CBS, not Fox carried President Obama's 15 minute immigration speech. If you live in one of the few markets that carried the speech, I can see how the uninformed might mistake a few East Coast affiliates local decision to carry the speech as a network decision but-----but the networks chose not to carry the speech, even though...
"In exchange for using the public airwaves for free, and generating enormous profits off them, television broadcast networks in America agree to set aside time to fulfill their public interest obligation. Tonight's brief, 10 to 15 minute address about immigration reform ought to be one of those times."
Network News' Shameful Decision To Snub Obama's Immigration Address

Early in his first term, President George W. Bush addressed the nation in primetime about allowing for limited stem cell research in America and his approval for limited medical research. During the weeks leading up to the announcement, there had a been regular news coverage of the topic, as the White House let reporters know the president was deeply engaged on the issue and was meeting with an array of experts to guide him.

As Bush appeared from his ranch in Texas to make the announcement, all of the major broadcast networks joined the cable news channels in carrying his message live.

The stem cell speech didn't address breaking news and it wasn't about an imminent threat facing the nation. But at the time, network executives said they were happy to air the address. "I don't think it was a tough call because it's an issue that's received so much attention," CBS News spokeswoman Sandy Genelius told the Boston Globe. ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider agreed: "It's an important issue and one that the country is following closely." He added that Bush was "going to make news" with the speech.

A decade later the rules seem to have shifted. All four networks have announced they won't carry President Obama's address to the nation tonight about his long awaited plan to take executive action to deal with the pressing issue of immigration reform. (Two Spanish language networks, Univision and Telemundo, will carry the address live in primetime.)

Keep in mind, the issue is so paramount, and Obama's strategy supposedly so controversial, that a Republican senator yesterday warned there might be violence in the streets in response to Obama's actions. Some GOP lawmakers insisted Obama could face a flurry of legal action including impeachment proceedings, while others have urged the entire federal government be shut down if Obama goes through with his plan.

Yet according to executives at ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox,
Obama's address isn't worth covering.

WUWT?

You're free to "think" anything you want regardless of how idiotic it may be but-----but unless you have a network email or network memo or network executive quote on tape or... you're just magically pulling rightwing bullshit out of your ideological ass.

You have your head too far up Obama's ass to accept the reason the networks gave for not airing his message. Posting it on facebook is not proper protocol for requesting 15 minutes of prime time on the networks. Like most of the other things this incompetent administration does, they think they don't have to play by the rules.

obumble is so over exposed the public is tiref of looking at him. He's getting as bad as Hugo Chavez.

That part about "agree to carry....."?

Just another lie.

No such "agreement" ever was made and if there were an attempt to extort one you'd suddenly start hearing those network nattering on about unconstitutionality.

But a Constitutional Scholar (unless, of course just of the Kenyan Constitution) would know that.

Wouldn't He?

Let me see FOX and NBC carried the speech as did all three cable news networks so that would leave ABC and CBS who did not now why would they do that? You think it might be because ABC decided that airing the season finale of Grey's Anatomy and CBS airing their big ratings winner The Big Bang Theory was better for business than airing a speech from what is an increasingly unpopular lame duck President?

"Cable news channels like Fox News and CNN carried the address, and some of the networks carried it on their digital platforms, but a network insider told Politico on Thursday the speech’s content was too “overtly political” to broadcast.

The move not to make formal requests to the four largest English-language networks comes at a low point in relations between the White House and the press pool, many of whom feel shut out by the Obama administration.

The networks, especially the so-called “big three” of CBS, NBC and ABC, used to be the only conduit between President and people. But the Obama administration has become adept at using other outlets, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, to get its message across.

On Wednesday, for example, the announcement that Obama would address the media on immigration was made not to the press pool or in a briefing, but in a video posted to Facebook."
