The clip from the film does make one valid point. Considering the huge number of solar systems in the universe, it is very possible there are other planets that have or once had intelligent life. Whether or not it would ever be possible to meet or communicate with such life if it exist is another issue.

It has to be a statistical impossibility for only one planet in the universe to have life, even intelligent life.

As for aliens wanting to conquer the Earth, that is absurd. What would we have to offer a space faring race? Any resources we have would be available elsewhere. The only thing we have of value is our many cultures and they are certainly unique in all the universe. If aliens came here it is to study us not to eat our brains and if that is the case it is possible they are here among us right now.
