Anyone recalls that Republican Conservative, Senator Ted Stevens, was no major stranger to federal spending largesse for actual working projects. The bridge itself actually went to nowhere, but the jobs were there, nonetheless!

Alaska learned the Socialist Market lesson of Federal and State spending largesse directed to the lower and middle income markets. Below is from, "Alaska Construction Spending 2011 Forecast. Annual Report For The Construction Industry Progress Fund and the Associated General Contractors of Alaska," by Scott Goldsmith and Mary Killorin, Institute of Social and Economic Research, University of Alaska, Anchorage, AK:

"Construction activity—measured by total spending, jobs, payroll, or gross product—
has experienced strong growth for more than a decade, driven largely by
growing federal capital grants to Alaska, large federal agency capital budgets, oil and gas
spending, and more recently, large state capital budgets. These large external
sources of construction funds not only fuel public spending and oil patch spending but
also give a general boost to the economy—and thus add to the aggregate demand for
new residential, commercial, and private infrastructure spending.
CONSTRUCTION IN THE OVERALL ECONOMY
Construction spending is one of the important contributors to overall economic
activity in Alaska."

Clearly, the Romney, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Boehner, Cantor Brand intends to take that away from. . . .even Sarah Palin!

That is actually Stimulus Money, even from Obama-Biden, and Pelosi-Reid, being spent like really it is supposed to be spent. A Tax Base happens. State and Local Government employement happens. That comes after private sector employment happens.

That is Keynes! That is Liberal. That is not what the Ivy League did anywhere else, but in Alaska(?)!

"Crow, James Crow: Shaken, Not Stirred!"
(Is it any wonder that Sarah Palin, can even oogle Vladamir Putin, riding shirtless. there on horseback, in Siberia: Right there from her own front porch(?)! Serious Stimulation is likely being discussed, there!)

Taxpayer funded projects do not stimulate the economy. They only shift confiscated money from one segment of society to another segment.

"The Gravina Island Bridge, commonly referred to as the "Bridge to Nowhere", was a proposed bridge to replace the ferry that currently connects the town of Ketchikan, Alaska, with Gravina Island, an island that contains the Ketchikan International Airport as well as 50 residents. ...

According to the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, the project's goal was to "provide better service to the airport and allow for development of large tracts of land on the island"....

A ferry runs to the island every thirty minutes, and every fifteen minutes during the May–September....

Ketchikan's airport is the second largest in Southeast Alaska, after Juneau International Airport, handles over 200,000 passengers a year, while the ferry shuttled 350,000 people in the same time period (as of December 2006)."

So, that isn't exactly a bridge to nowhere, now is it?

It may not be the best use of funds, there is a debate. Maybe they should move the airport. Maybe the ferry system is good enough.

The highway that was built to the bridge that was cancelled is now clearly a highway to nowhere, this would not be an exaggeration.

"Nowhere" would be like it went out into the ocean and just stopped. But the bridge itself went to an island with an airport and calling it a bridge to "nowhere" is clearly an exaggeration.

After the Bush-Cheney version of the Romney Brand, collapsing business confidence in the USA, and the planet generally, The United States sank into double digit unemployment.

Shown above, Alaska was the beneficiary of rational infrastructure spending, opposed by henchmen like Rep. Paul Ryan, Senator McConnell, Rep. Boehner, and Rep. Cantor. All spending is to all be cut back.

Since the State of Alaska was the beneficiary at rate: Then Obama kept his pledge! The unemployment rate stayed below the 8% promise.

Notably, a Liberal would become the next United States Senator, from Alaska: Not liked or endorsed by the T's.
