Alan Simpson Calls GOP Refusal To Raise Revenue ‘Absolute Bullshit’

Alan Simpson is a tax-and-spend RINO. That's why he was selected for President's debt commission. he's the kind of Republican who is always willing to cut deals with the devil "to get things done." In other words, he's eager to sell his constituents down the river.

That's right! The Simpson-Bowles Commission only recommended 75% spending cuts! Not enough for the Small Tent Republicans!

Good for Simpson. He's absolutely right. Saying that taxes cannot go up under any circumstances says the GOP aren't serious about the deficit.

There is no reason for taxes go up. Everyone in this country pays more than enough as it is.

Former GOP Sen. Alan Simpson blasted his intransigent GOP colleagues on the Hill today for failing to reach a deal on the deficit. The blunt-talking co-chairman of President Obama’s bipartisan fiscal reform commission slammed Republicans for kowtowing to Americans for Tax Reform head Grover Norquist (“Republicans can’t be in thrall to him”) and pushed Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to stand fast on the August 2 deadline.

Surveying the lay of the current fiscal land, Simpson said, “We’re at 15 percent revenue, and historically it’s been closer to 20 percent.”

He added, “We’ve never had a war without a tax, and now we’ve got two. … Absolute bullshit.”

Alan Simpson is a moron because we don't have TWO wars, we have THREE wars.

Correct. There is more than enough to cut. The problem has always been runaway spending. It's time to put an end to that.

Bottom line, Democrats have to be willing to shrink government and cut programs. Just raising taxes will not solve any of our problems. I will blame the Democrats if we default on our debt.

Bottom line: Democrats are willing to make cuts and raise revenues. We can't cut our way out. But Republicans are only willing to CUT.

ah but the problem is the demonrats are playing class warfare. They aren't willing to raise the taxes on anybody but the rich. Let every working AMERICAN pay for those "two wars." Thanks for listening.

...

I've always thought a war tax was a great idea. We should start now. That should cause all the troops to return home by Christmas.

The solution is quite simple show us your massive spending cut's and we'll consider increasing revenue.

Where is this list of cuts by Democrats?

It's amazing how it is that when a former Rep is no longer in Congress, he finally feels free to say the kind of things he would have felt completely constrained from saying while still in office due to the blowback in party retribution that invariably would have come his way for speaking his mind.

There are very good reasons for taxes to go up. 70% of our budget is SS, Medicare and defense. These are popular. But we aren't paying for them. You could shut down everything else and we still wouldn't balance the budget. Americans live in this fantasy land that you can fire a bunch of government employees, end all foreign aid and shut down a few government agencies and Voila! everything will be fine. Sorry. Math doesn't work. If you think we shouldn't have SS or Medicare or spend more on the military than the next 25 countries in the world combined, fine. Let's have that debate. But we cannot continue living in a fiscal fairy tale. If we want lower taxes, kill those programs. If not, raise taxes.

Right. The Tea Party base (and I'm not talking about Ron Paul and the young, but the baby boomer posers) want tax cuts but no spending cuts to entitlements.

Alan Simpson is unbiased. He's putting current GOP policy in the best light possible.

We've tried the Democrat's way of new taxes now and cuts later (that never happen).
Let's try to cut now for 5 or 6 years and then we'll think about tax hikes.

What planet are you from? What the fuck do you call Reagan's "Trickle Down Economics" program that we have been on that has largely put us in this mess?

.

Raise taxes ..actually cut tax cuts on the top 1%. End the wars and stop the loopholes the large corporations use. Stop giving large corporations tax incentives for outsourcing (that is insane) and we will be fine.

Don't mess with medicare or social security. Raise the damn taxes on teh uber rich and this is a done deal. Of course republicans are against taking away tax loopholes since they hate the big corporations being hurt in any way since they are paid by lobbyists, but you dumb republican voters are actually backing them up.

Morons.

its all in how you put it T, you know that.

being in the class that is bulls-eyed by Obama, I would sit still for the bush cuts expiring IF it was used as fed deficit reduction and we had a balanced budget amend.

its a battle that will go non right to the that last minute...we've been here before....

I'm all for Simpson-Bowles.

Having said that, taxes were raised in the 90s and spending relative to GDP fell. In the 00s, taxes were cut and spending relative to GDP rose. So the idea that the politicians will just spend it away doesn't seem to jive with recent history.
