Airlines gouging people trying to leave Tokyo.

I have not watched the video, but I am going to assume that you are saying he said that airlines are charging more now to fly out of Tokyo than they were before the earthquake, and you think they should give away the seats because people are (possibly) in danger. Since Japan lost at least one airport, and thus has fewer ways out of the country, and more people are suddenly trying to leave, don't you think that might affect prices for the available seats?

I also posted the link for airfares leaving Tokyo to L.A.
SWISS AIR IS CHARGING 17,000.00 WITH TWO STOPS.

The same thing happened last year when the volcano in Iceland erupted. The number of flights were severely cut back, and the airlines jacked up prices through the roof. They did some pretty slimy things like not honoring tickets which had already been purchased so they could resell the seats at the inflated prices.

And Singapore Airlines is charging $787, which just proves you do not have a point.

Which is illegal everywhere in Europe and the US, which makes me wonder why you think they actually got away with it.

Singapore China is not that far away then again if you would watch the video it is explained a lot better than I could.

Not going to watch someone whine about something he does not understand anything about. That Singapore flight I mentioned is non stop from Tokyo to LA, so I am a little confused as to how China is not that far away is at all pertinent to the discussion.

Want to try again?

This is how Capitalism works; supply and demand and all that crap.

It would be nice if the airlines provided reduced fares but they're not going to do that; they're in business to make a buck.

Let loose the wrath of capitalism on the disadvantaged!

WWJD is never asked in a boardroom.

Honestly I bet costs of operation are higher than the day before the quake. I also bet "emergency" crews are being called in. Still anything higher than 50% above normal has to be pure price gorging. Oh well, hopefully the price setters in the airlines aren't part of my religion which believes God sees what you do at work also.

It still happens; and I know because we had several employees stranded in Europe.

The airlines get around it by canceling and renumbering the flight. They can then sell tickets as a new flight.

That is not what you accused them of doing. Do you think that, when something like that happens, that they just hit a pause button and and wait until they can fly again? They have to honor all the tickets they sell, and when they start flying again they have to fly the non cancelled flights first, and all the passengers on those flights, then they can move on to cancelled flights and those passengers, fitting them in where possible. Sometimes that means they have to choose between a longer wait or a more expensive flight.

Life sucks, get over it.

I notice that you totally missed the point of my post. I made it a little harder to miss, go back and read it, then answer my question.

I do not have to try again, you proved that you, and the guy in the video that I am not going to watch, are both wrong.

OK back to your other post a flight to china from Tokyo normally doesn't cost half that. It's like over night the price was doubled. But anyway the man in the video is not whining, he's just informing people that the airlines have jacked their prices up. I really don't care myself. But the next time the airlines need a bailout I say let them be grounded.

1. i thought the right liked unfettered capitalism. That means that pure supply and demand set the price. No surprises the cost went up.

2. It's easy to say let them be grounded when you don't need to get anywhere. It's also easy to forfeit jobs when they aren't your jobs.

I have no problem, as a matter of fact I don't care. But the next time the airlines need a bailout I say again ground them. Maybe they should save some of this money when things star to get bad for them again.

What a jerk. I'm sure you'd like it if you had a $1,000 ticket which the airline refused to honor while selling your seat to somebody else for $8,000, and then being stuck with a few nights of hotel bills.

But I am fairly certain that your life does indeed suck.

The flight I mentioned is from Tokyo to Los Angeles, why do you keep talking about China?

Try again.
