Agnosticism

Hey Allie, you do know that quote is from Freewill right?

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for theism.

It's been a while since I spent hours writing down Rush lyrics after listening to their music over and over on headphones.

Still a cool song.

I know because the bible states it, the holy spirit confirms it, and my own experience supports the existence of God.

 Love it! Your sarcastic wit is :clap2: Well, done! I often find myself unable to quash religious nonsense with such curt eloquence! Again, well said!

Thank you. I appreciate your sarcasm, your sneering attitude, and your intolerance.

Here are the lyrics to Freewill...

And it can be interpreted in many different ways, btw.

Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson

There are those who think that life
Has nothing left to chance
With a host of holy horrors
To direct our aimless dance

A planet of playthings
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
The stars arent aligned ---
Or the gods are malign
Blame is better to give than receive

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path thats clear
I will choose free will

There are those who think that theyve been dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them ---
They werent born in lotus-land

All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face
You cant pray for a place
In heavens unearthly estate

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt
Thats far too fleet...

I like this verse:

"You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path thats clear
I will choose free will"

It can be interpreted in a few different ways, and it doesn't necessarily apply exclusively to those who believe in a Christian God...it can apply to anyone who believes in anything.

And I see it in no way as a condemnation of Christianity, but rather of those who blindly follow a God with no consideration to the philosophy of it..and it applies to socialism as well.

True and devoted Christians spend many meditative hours and years seeking out the meaning of the Bible and how it applies. Neil is talking more about people who blindly follow without giving it thought, and instead just accepting what they are fed without thinking about it themselves, which is of course, not the ideal way to follow God.
