If you are a middle class family in high tax states like NY, NJ and Illinois, you probably have to work more than 1 job to stay above water.
I realized that after my wife and I retired at age 55 in NY, we would have to still work.
We moved to Venice, Florida and have never looked back. Our car insurance became 60% lower, our property taxes went from $15,000 a year to under $2000 a year. We have a large 3 bedroom house that no one could ever build behind. No state income tax!
In the past three years, it has been noticeable that New Yorkers have been flocking to our town. After Snow Bird Season ended, I still saw many NY Plates on the main drag and still do. This means that they are here to stay. This year as a result of the influx of NYers, the home builders are working at break speed to keep up with demand for housing. Soon it will be known as Little New York. The best Florida License Plate I have seen is FLED NY.
