Affirmative Action Helped Whites

women did labor a lot, and much of the work they did was just as "tough" as men

traditionally, women did not work construction and were not worksmiths. Most did not work the fields in the same manner as the men

You are talking that recently? No matter what point in history or culture you pick though, the work women did was just as tough as men, just in different ways. We can take the era you are thinking and even test it, try cleaning an iron pot used to roast in, no Teflon, no margarine, no baking oil at all that would stick to it. Also work with lye, which eats skin and was commonly used to launder. You are not seeing it from both sides, women's work throughout history has been no less rough than mens work. Even in tribal eras, tending the fire, sewing with bone needles and crafting leather. Pottery. Preparing meat with stone knives. Neither has had it any easier. However, the male body uses protein up faster, while females use calcium, so hair and nails on males is naturally stronger and thicker. Thus men would grow both much faster as well. The nails on both would break, it wasn't until much later in history that women of wealth would grow longer nails and hair, while poor women were incapable of such luxuries. In the modern world it is easier since many jobs require almost no hard labor, however somewhere along the line American culture decided that men looked better with short hair and nails, while women looked better with long hair and nails.
