Outcry at far-right child informer scheme

German justice minister Katarina Barley has sharply condemned an online scheme launched by the far-right AfD party to get schoolchildren to inform on teachers who are politically partial.

The far-right party entered parliament for the first time this year, becoming the biggest opposition party.

Its informant site started in Hamburg and is likely to be launched elsewhere.

Ms Barley said it was "a method of dictators" and one union leader likened it to a "tool from the Middle Ages".

Comparisons have also been drawn with spying practices by the Nazis in World War Two and afterwards by the Stasi security service in communist East Germany.

In the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg, Education Minister Susanne Eisenmann said the idea was "completely wrong and harmful to democracy".

Well I read you post and thought it was bat shit. Well I was wrong, this is the truth, as far of a WWII tactic this is true also. Hitler said so in his book. He stated that the Young are the future. Teach them young and they will follow. Some of the Regular SS troops feared the teenagers in the SS, they had just one rule, die for the Leader. They killed 126 Army paptroopers in a courtyard in France.

Look Tommy, It's not Teachers' place to indoctrinate children one way or another. If your a parent, you trust the school to help give your children an education... but it is up to the parents' discretion to handle some of those other things in life. The fact that a teacher has the children for most of the day and can manipulate, even using peer pressure of the other students, is not quite fair so I think your on the wrong side of this one.
Holding those teachers to task who break that trust? why do you call that a crime? Just let them do their job. It's not their job to turn children into little robots.

German teachers mass report themselves to far-right party after it asks children to spy on their political views

I love the German sense of humour.

Teachers at a German school have reported themselves en masse to a far-right party after it asked pupils to spy on their political views so it could compile a list of its critics.

The AfD party has set up a system through which students can report and denounce their teachers to the party if they criticise it in class, or express related political views.

But teachers at the Lina Morgenstern School in Kreuzberg, Berlin, wrote a joint letter to the AfD asking for all their names to be voluntarily added onto the “denunciation list” it is compiling.

“We attach great importance to being on this list because we will continue to ensure that school students are empowered to understand the character of your party,” the teachers wrote, according to a copy of the message made public through the GEW teachers’ union.

“Of course, we will do this in the classroom and are in line with the Beutelsbach Consensus [a policy on the presentation of controversial subjects] and Article 1 of the Berlin Education Act. We will inform our students when members and officials of your party engage in racist, inhumane, sexist, historical revisionist, antisemitic or anti-democratic activities that jeopardise our peaceful coexistence in society.”

The teachers added: “From history, we know that what begins with denunciation and intimidation ends with the detention of dissenters in camps. For all these reasons, and because we are not intimidated, we would be honoured if you could put our names on your list of denunciations.”
