Admiral Allen who is President Obama's point man, the captain of the Obama Gulf Coast rescue ship needs to go, in Americanese "get his ass out of the job". America needed a leader on this oil clean up effort that was going to fight as hard as he or she could to protect the Gulf Coast, a person that was going to throw away the rule book, didn't care whose toes he stepped on, a get the job done come hell or high water type of person. Instead what America has gotten in the Admiral is a good soldier that follows orders, follows plans, protects his bosses public image no matter what the cost but when it comes to achieving needed results he is a "clear failure"; the quantity of oil that has hit the Gulf coast should never have been, Allen should have been raisin hell and gotten and deployed the resources he needed to stop this outcome.

The latest failure of the Admiral is his endorsement of the rule that the media and unauthorized persons are not permitted within sixty-five feet of booms, and clean-up equipment in the Gulf. This is a completely unAmerican and bad decision, what is crystal clear about this BP oil leak so far is that the American people cannot trust the American government and BP to responsibly clean up this leak, the American people needs the media to tell us what is going on down there so the American people can call for what is right to be done! In fact there should be a rule in place just the opposite of the current rule, the American media should have the right to go exactly where booms and oil clean up equipment are deployed to assess for the American people how effective these clean up efforts are. This stupid Coast Guard rule would ban even local fisherman and local officials from closely examining booms to see if they need to be replaced and to fully gage the oil damage so more clean-up resources can be called for!

As things stand today, history will record the Obama Administration's response to the Gulf oil leak as follows. That initially the Obama Administration was slow to mobilize resources to protect the Gulf environment to suppress public attention because they were hoping the leak would be quickly plugged and the leak and the public fallout would not be so bad so their agenda to pass an energy/climate bill would not be hurt which needed provisions expanding off-shore oil drilling to get votes for the bill's enactment. Then once it was clear that the leak posed a danger of an environmental catastrophe the Obama Administration was slow in their clean-up response because they were neurotic about not having to pay for the clean up and shifting clean up cost to BP because if the Obama administration was stuck paying for the clean up that would mean less social program spending which is one of their sacred cows and the Obama administration was also guided by a variety of disgraceful political concerns like protecting union jobs which stopped the Administration from waving the Jones Act and receiving clean up ships from foreign countries.

If the Obama Administration wants to save their reputation on the Gulf of Mexico Oil leak they need to replace Admiral Allen with a person like General Russel Honore (call him back out of retirement) - a kick butt taken names type guy! They need to give this new leader the authorization to sign-up to five billion dollars worth of contracts to get the resources he needs to do the oil clean-up and they need to tell this leader he or she will get more money for resouces we just need to assess how the five billion is spent to determine if their is rules that need to be put in place to stop fraud and abuse and the like. To hell with all this focus on making sure BP pays every dime of the clean, America's environmental treasure is at stake here - protect this treasure should be the top priority. They need to give this new leader authority to utilize all the Navys continental U.S. resources unless needed for national security reasons. They need to give this leader authority to ask Congress and ask whoever and do whatever he or she wants to clean up this oil and protect the Gulf Coast Environment environment.

With Hurricane Alex America and its efforts to clean up the Gulf oil leak dodged a big bullet. Future Hurricanes this year will likely travel further North closer to the leak and America then will see dramatically greater environmental damage. America has no time to waste here we need to get that oil out of the ocean or we will be paying dearly with terrible environmental damage!

Real leadership hopefully will come in the next presidential election, since it is obvious that we are powerless to do anything about this one. Hopefully the Gulf of Mexico won't turn into a giant sludge pot and replace the well known Rancho La Brea Tar Pits as a 'tourist trap'.
