Suddenly it's ok to 'speak out...' Don't you think it's so cool that he names, names? Chomsky of course is one of the 'good ones.'

Mearsheimer Makes a List

John Mearsheimer gave a speech at the Palestine Center in Washington yesterday and called Israel an apartheid state that has practiced ethnic cleansing and will likely practice it in the future. For Mearsheimer, this is standard practice. But he added a new twist: he separated American Jews into three categories: “Righteous Jews,” “New Afrikaners,” and a middle group of Jews who aren’t quite sure whether they’re righteous or ethnic cleansers. These are Mearsheimer’s Righteous Jews:

To give you a better sense of what I mean when I use the term righteous Jews, let me give you some names of people and organizations that I would put in this category. The list would include Noam Chomsky, Roger Cohen, Richard Falk, Norman Finkelstein, Tony Judt, Tony Karon, Naomi Klein, MJ Rosenberg, Sara Roy, and Philip Weiss of Mondoweiss fame, just to name a few. I would also include many of the individuals associated with J Street and everyone associated with Jewish Voice for Peace, as well as distinguished international figures such as Judge Richard Goldstone. Furthermore, I would apply the label to the many American Jews who work for different human rights organizations, such as Kenneth Roth of Human Rights Watch.

And then there are America’s Afrikaner Jews, who are not just apologists for apartheid and ethnic cleansing, but are actually a fifth column. Note that he goes beyond the normal “dual loyalty” trope and says that these American Jews are “blindly loyal” only to Israel:

These are individuals who will back Israel no matter what it does, because they have blind loyalty to the Jewish state. … I would classify most of the individuals who head the Israel lobby’s major organizations as new Afrikaners. That list would include Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League, David Harris of the American Jewish Committee, Malcolm Hoenlein of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Ronald Lauder of the World Jewish Congress, and Morton Klein of the Zionist Organization of America, just to name some of the more prominent ones. I would also include businessmen like Sheldon Adelson, Lester Crown, and Mortimer Zuckerman as well as media personalities like Fred Hiatt and Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post, Bret Stephens of the Wall Street Journal, and Martin Peretz of the New Republic. It would be easy to add more names to this list.
I believe Mearsheimer left out a category: “Anti-Semites and Jew-Baiters.” I will leave it to you who to add to that list.

UPDATE: David Bernstein adds his thoughts over at Volokh.

follow EU? as in European Union?

Annie, what the fuck are you talking about? :eusa_eh:

I'd recommend you stop getting your stuff from blogs.

Hackery. A much overly used word. A dummie word. Same as the race card. Very limited.. very.

Annie is most certainly a hack. I ask her what is with this thread, and she personally attacks me with no foundation for such attacks. I like to know how I'm an antisemite if I support Israel's right to defend itself, against Iran having nuclear weapons, and am friends with more than a few Jewish people. Including Jillian on this board.

That's just like saying I'm Anti-American because I criticize our government. Which is why I think Annie is a whack job.

 Man, I've sure changed. Though you're too blinded by your hackery to notice.

I'm merely pointing out you can keep making threads that make absolutely no sense. What was the point of this thread? And in response, you go on the personal attack.

By the way, it's been a year and four months.

Changed? Hardly.

More enlightened, aka European wannabee, than ever.

Same anti-semite.

Anti-semite? That's quite the accusation, can you back it up? I don't think criticizing Israel for their treatment of people at times makes me a anti-semite. If that is the case, then I'd be Anti-America for being appalled when during WWII, we had internment camps for Japanese Americans.

i still don't get the title of this retarded thread.

you want to blame the EU, or you can't spell, or wut?

annie, hello?

Don't mind Annie, she's been a little whacked in the head lately to say the least. Soon enough, other sensible people will come into the thread and call her out on it. She'll scurry off per usual as if this thread never happened.

The world does not turn around a need to categorize people into anti-semite or not.
Pioneers like Prof. John Mearsheimer must be supported, who expose people running around in the motivation to benchmark everyone on this non-existant need mostly out of motivation to advance their own interests, and to keep influencing the host nation even if the outcome is not in the strategic interest of the host nation.
There are elements in your country, that determine preferential relations to a 7 Million people nation at the cost of sympathiy to XXX Million people.

There will never be "Golden Age" between Christians and Muslims.
There can be co-existence with minimum tensions, that put both "cultural entities" into open-minded mode, so either of them is open for the ideas of the other entity. Such times we had already. In these times this would primarily mean transfer from West to East, as West has undeniably progressed more.

Soft Power from USA over Muslim world dimnished, with hard power, you only influence the ruling regimes in Muslim world, which have near to zero legitimity on the mind-set of Arab streets. Palestine is No.1 issue for Muslims.
Israel has de-facto "untouchable-umbrella" within world-system and the International Organizations, no matter what it does. USA sponsors this position for Israel, and when need arises USA just outpowers world community (UN). Israel does what it want, bringing destruction over civilians in Lebanon 2006 and Gaza children in 2008.
As long as USA sponsors this position, mind-sets will be closed.

We have an Israel, that did not even participate in the "Nuclear Summit" in Washington because herself has a criminal nuclear programme not under the audition of World Community. But herself is working for escalation of Iran subject.
Sunnites have their own problems with Iran, but as things stand (Iraq, Afgahanistan) the Muslims will just see a 3rd Muslim Nation that comes under the wheel of Christians - mildly or heavily you decide - influenced by the interests of Israel.

That is not a good way, and at some point things will become irreversible. At least for the currenty generation of living people.

Those wanting a continuity of unique Israelian position within world system without any checks and restrictions, will identify people like the Professor as Anti-Semite.
Their interests demand this strategy.

John Mearsheimer’s speech on Jews: Echoes of the 1930s

Let’s take a walk through history and compare the speech that John Mearsheimer gave to the Palestine Center with a few historical speeches given by two other men who claimed they had nothing, really, against the Jews. Mearsheimer titled his speech “The Future of Palestine: Righteous Jews vs. New Afrikaners.”

John Mearsheimer:

On the other side we have the new Afrikaners, who will support Israel even if it is an apartheid state. These are individuals who will back Israel no matter what it does, because they have blind loyalty to the Jewish state. This is not to say that the new Afrikaners think that apartheid is an attractive or desirable political system, because I am sure that many of them do not. Surely some of them favor a two-state solution and some of them probably have a serious commitment to liberal values. The key point, however, is that they have an even deeper commitment to supporting Israel unreservedly.

Charles Lindbergh:

The three most important groups who have been pressing this country toward war are the British, the Jewish and the Roosevelt administration. … As I have said, these war agitators comprise only a small minority of our people; but they control a tremendous influence. Against the determination of the American people to stay out of war, they have marshaled the power of their propaganda, their money, their patronage.

...

Father Charles Coughlin, the anti-Semitic radio priest:

The average Jew, the kind we admire and respect, has been placed in jeopardy by his guilty leaders. He pays for their Godlessness, their persecution of Christians, their attempts to poison the whole world with Communism.

My purpose is to help eradicate from the world its mania for persecution, to help align all good men. Catholic and Protestant, Jew and Gentile, Christian and non-Christian, in a battle to stamp out the ferocity, the barbarism and the hate of this bloody era. I want the good Jews with me, and I’m called a Jew baiter, an anti-Semite.

John Mearsheimer gets the last word:

American Jews who care deeply about Israel can be divided into three broad categories. The first two are what I call “righteous Jews” and the “new Afrikaners,” which are clearly definable groups that think about Israel and where it is headed in fundamentally different ways. The third and largest group is comprised of those Jews who care a lot about Israel, but do not have clear-cut views on how to think about Greater Israel and apartheid. Let us call this group the “great ambivalent middle.”

[...] Righteous Jews have a powerful attachment to core liberal values. They believe that individual rights matter greatly and that they are universal, which means they apply equally to Jews and Palestinians. They could never support an apartheid Israel.

[...] Of course, the new Afrikaners will fiercely defend apartheid Israel, because their commitment to Israel is so unconditional that it overrides any commitment they might have to liberal values.

I can’t see a difference between the three men’s attitudes towards Jews. Can you?
