First of all....by their very nature actors are phonies....as in....pretending to be someone they are not.

Yet these phonies carry a lot of influence today. Why is that?

I think one big reason being people actually believe they know them and understand and trust them based on some sympathetic and kikeable character or characters they portray.

People despite at some level understanding that movies are not reality cannot help but believe the character the actor portrays is real....people have a fragile grasp of reality at best.

Look at Ronald Reagan...a guy who actually went senile whilst being President...yet the media covered up for him...even when Nancy was caught live on camera whispering to him what to say when he became befuddled.

Far too many people loved this guy and really for no good reason other than the characters he portrayed and his iconic image as a cowboy.

I well remember after the marine barracks bombing in Lebanon Reagan was quoted a saying....'I wish there was something we could do about that.'

I guess in his befuddled mind he had no idea what he as President could have done.

I have never been a fan of Hollywood....but there was a time when they at least attempted to be in favor of patriotism. Now apparantly the more treasonous an actor is the more hollywood promotes them.

Thus you seem these 'cows' as Hitchcock referred to them...falling all over themselves trying to be more anti-trump than the others.

Why? they care more about career enhancement than they do about America.

Now watch the curmudgeons come on here and attack,attack,attack...........bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa How dare I insult one of their idols.
They need to remember what the good book says about idols....be they matinee idols or whatever.

I am so fed up with these republican phonies I am considering becoming a democrat.

So you prefer Hollywood liberals?

Some random ideas.

In many ways I agree with you. Modern Republicans are an interestng, confused bunch who mostly seem to just agree on a dislike taxes, regulations and tan skin on all but European models or porn stars.

Depending on the length of the Trump rein I am curious if the Republicans are gonna have a split like the D's did in the 60's.

Vote for issues not parties. Never worship a man or political party.

Since at least the 60's entertainment and politics have been entertwined. I suspect the Red Scare and the nationalization of media pushed that.

Ronald was an old man. At least through the 84 debates he didn't seem really senile. If we all had that much press coverage we'd have moments of bewilderment shown also.

It's silly to just automatically connect a person's profession and his/her politics. Actors have to understand the psychology behind the character they are playing, whether doing Hamlet or Dirty Harry, in order to play it properly. They also have to master the physical skills necessary, whether martial arts or riding horses. It's a craft like any other and a lot of work.

I think their influence is overrated actors used to have a very well crafted public image and did not make their politics known or if they did in a limited way, If you are old enough to have seen Johnny Carson you never knew what his politics were not so with todays late night host which is why none hold a candle to him in my view many in Hollywood have also taken a very condescending and insulting view of those who don't share there politics which has also reduced there influence. Look at how many Hollywood elites endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 that might have had an impact with those already supporting her but it seemed to have little to no impact with those in the flyover country.
