Before you assume that the ACLU has become an advocate for 2nd Amendment rights think again. The ACLU is suing the state of North Dakota on behalf of aliens. The ACLU is trying to force ND to issue concealed weapon permits to people who are not citizens of the US. Some would say it's part of the strategy to extend 2nd Amendment rights to illegal aliens. Should non US citizens be authorized to posess concealed weapons?

whew

man for a moment there I thought the Anti Conservative Liberal Union was standing up for something important.

No, illegals and non'citizens do not have the right to carry weapons. Conceled or other wise.

Not unless he copied and pasted part of an article, which it appears he didn't.

They're suing on behalf of "green card" holders, who are actually in this country legally. But, they can't vote either. Can't vote, can't concealed carry.

The ACLU is just once again showing what kind of an anti American organization it is. Someone should sue the ACLU, right out of existence.

Just a note to make sure people understand that "green card holders" are aliens. My opinion is that it's part of the ACLU's strategy to disrupt the fabric of American society and pave the way for illegal criminal aliens, who might recive amnesty, to carry concealed weapons.

Not sure where the OP got this from? :eusa_eh:

South Dakota's chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union filed a Federal lawsuit against the state Monday hoping to open up the state's concealed weapon law to all legal U.S. residents

*snip*

While not a citizen by naturalization or birth, a lawful permanent resident is someone who has been granted authorization to live and work in the U.S. on a permanent basis. Those individuals are issued a green card. The lawsuit does not cover illegal immigrants living in the country.

ACLU challenges citizenship requirement for concealed weapons

If you read the source, it looks like illegals are specifically not included. It also lays out that the vast majority of states already allow concealed carry permits for legal residents. What makes you speculate this is about illegals?

Edit: On re-reading it might not be a majority allowing legal residents to apply for permits. It only states that a "handful" have a citizenship requirement. But its interesting to note SD did allow them for legal residents until a rule change in 2002. Interesting situation there.

The Constitution applies to all citizens and people residing in the country. Not supporting this measure would be no different that supporting the removal 4th and 5th amendment protections from anyone apprehended by law enforcement in the United States, just because of their legal status.

Can you point to anything in the 2nd that would make it constitutional not to let non citizens carry?

The question I would ask is whether the OP and others who oppose this want to make the 2d Amendment in general a right restricted only to citizens. And if so, what other enumerated rights would they take away from legal resident non-citizens? What should be the litmus test?

I'm not a gun person myself, but civil rights are civil rights.
