The once self proclaimed champion for civil liberties, and free speech has restructured itself from "champion for all", to "mercenary for hire"; nationalists, whites, white-nationalists need not bother to request services. You will not be protected.
In a rather uncharachteristic move for the organization; the leadership has decided it will not protect the civil liberties of certain groups. Under new guidlines certain groups will be precluded from assistance or aid by the once upon a time self proclaimed champion for all. And instead will be left to go it alone, as board leadership has determined that certain groups civil liberties aren't worthy of protection. A rather stark departure from the groups foundational princples.

The ACLU Retreats From Free Expression

The new guidelines assert that “no civil liberties, or civil rights value should automatically be privileged over any other.” But it’s clear that free speech has become second among equals.

The ACLU leadership had apparently hoped to keep its new guidelines secret, even from ACLU members. They’re contained in an internal document deceptively marked, in all caps, “confidential attorney client work product”, that was distributed to select ACLU officials and board members, who were instructed not to share it.

Long story short... Effective immediately, the ACLU will no longer defend White Nationalists from attacks against their Civil Liberties.

It won't be long until they drop the "Nationalists" portion of this directive and go with not defending white people's civil liberties.

No doubt. Incrementalism is their choice method. Thus the secretive nature of the policy change.

Well, the ACLU is just another organization that smells the coffee.

It realizes that it has to go along with the politically correct if it is to continue to get big donations from liberal celebrities.

The ACLU has a budget to meet. Its employees have to be paid. The rent has to be paid.

Bless its little heart.

I’ve mentioned before that I am a member of both the ACLU and the NRA. I believe that all the Civil Rights are vital and interconnected. You can’t lose one, without it affecting the others. You can’t have One diminished, without the others similarly suffering.

It is impossible to have Due Process of Law without the right to be secure in your person and papers as one example. I have long opposed the refusal of the ACLU to vigorously defend the 2nd Amendment. It’s why I am also a member of the NRA. However I do support the ACLU’s efforts in defending the other Civil Rights.

The ACLU has decided that all Free Speech is not equal, and some violations must be ignored.

Leaked Internal Memo Reveals the ACLU Is Wavering on Free Speech

When we treat Civil Rights as a buffet. Taking only that which we like and ignoring the rest, we will find that the buffet gets smaller and less sustaining over time. Freedom is not something to whittle away at, it is something to be vigorously defended every day. If we lose a little freedom here, a right there, and before long we are either in a totalitarian society, or dead.

The rights are interconnected. They must be defended from all attacks from every direction.

Voltaire told us the right way to think. I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it. When it comes to free speech, that is the only acceptable position to have if you are a civil rights organization.

Typical lefties think they get to choose which Amendment in the Bill of Rights they like. First they go after the 1st Amendment freedom of religion and then they go after freedom of speech and then they go on to the 2nd Amendment and the whole freaking Constitution.

The ACLU has always wavered on free speech.
Wavered is being too polite.

If it involves minorities, liberals, socialists, communists, feminists, and perverts. The ACLU is all in, and ready to fight.

But they could care less about white people, men in general, and conservatives and their rights. ...

Well said!

It's easy to advocate for people with shared beliefs or physical characteristics - the true test of a commitment to Civil Rights is to advocate for those who differ from you in beliefs or characteristics.

That's why eliminating the 2A is the linchpin of their goal to fundamentally transform America. They thought Hillary would appoint the 5th GunGrabber to SCOTUS, when she lost, they (Soros) decided to try a coup

Couldn't agree more. The ACLU's handling of discrimination law has always been the their fatal flaw. They used to be all about going to bat for unpopular minorities when the law was cracking down on them. But they can't seem to recognize that, in so many of the discrimination dust-ups, it's often the discriminator who is the unpopular minority. The rights being violated are the free speech rights of the 'bigot'.

I actually joined ACLU after Trump was elected. But I canceled my membership due to their inability to understand this.

The ACLU has always wavered on free speech.
It only depends on whom the speaker is. To that end they were fairly consistent...
And they've always been deceptive about it. Occasionally (for public consumption) they would defend a conservative under attack to show everyone they don't 'just defend liberals'. But since they failed to convince anyone, they must have decided to just take the mask off and let their communist flag fly freely. I mean, why not, everyone else is...Hollywood, the media, the Democratic Party. Trump seems to have kicked them all out of the closet just by winning the election.

Great, so the larger political question of civil rights and how they are interlinked was merged into the racist originated thread in current affairs because you posted a thing there to show how awful the liberals were.

Marvelous. Thanks mods. I appreciate it.
