Accomplishments of Liberalism

yea.. into the 60s where republicans developed what they like to call the "Southern Strategy" in which to lure all of the racists into the republican party where they have stayed to this very day..

Although the phrase "Southern strategy" is often attributed to Richard Nixon strategist Kevin Phillips, he did not originate it,[1] but merely popularized it.[2] In an interview included in a 1970 New York Times article, he touched on its essence:

From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don't need any more than that... but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats."[3]

Yeah, all the racist Dems flooded the Republican party. Unfortunately.

It's good to see you guys are back where you belong.

...if we plopped the founding fathers down amongst us, they'd be far right conservatives...

That's a 100% unadulterated, steaming pile of Artardbaba bull shit.

More ridiculous even than your artard insistence that JC would condemn welfare.

Let's see what our founding fathers believed in.

They believed in God.
They believed in a man's right to his own life, the pursuit of his own happiness, and the right to exist for his own sake.
They were thinkers (that lets out the libs right there).
They believed in a strong military.
They believed in an armed citizenry.
They believed in freedom of speech (libs espouse but don't really believe in freedom of speech for OTHERS).
They believed the individual is superior to the state (don't pass out, now...)

Sound like today's conservatives to me.

Can't have it both ways. When I stated that today's liberals are a whole different animal from the "liberal" founding fathers, the libs here wouldn't have it. We were founded by libs, by golly! When I pointed out that in today's political climate, if we plopped the founding fathers down amongst us, they'd be far right conservatives, libs sneered.

So now, faced with hard evidence of Democratic policies which erode at civil rights, you want to claim that those Dems and today's dems are different?

Funny.

It still doesn't answer what a liberal is. A liberal of yesteryear will surely be different from a liberal of today if the meaning of "liberal" is... roughly... "progressive." The difference will be accounted for by the progress that has been achieved.

Just because the liberals of today are different than the liberals of yesteryear doesn't mean that the liberals of the past would be conservatives (especially far right conservatives) of today. Today's liberals might not have that much in common with many of Thomas Jefferson's beliefs, but he might be turned off by the attachment to religion that today's far right conservatives have - to provide an example.

Put down the crack pipe, it's frying your brain. What little you have left.

There are Modern American liberals, and there are Classic American liberals.
Their ideology is almost completely incomnpatible.

God. Many liberals believe in God. Check.

Pursuit of Happiness. Check.

Thinkers. Check.

Strong military? Did the founders really put a lot of stock in a strong military? Anyway... check.

Armed citizenry? This one is iffy. Hard to think what the founders would think of an AK-47, and not all liberals want to ban guns. I disqualify this.

Freedom of Speech? Absolutely check. ACLU? Flag burning anyone?

Individuals are superior to the state? Not sure what you mean there. Seems like comparing apples and elephants. Rights of the individual against the state? Check (see where we come down on the wiretapping controversy for example).

Wow, I guess the founders are just like today's liberals.

So you agree. THank you.

You know how I can tell? Whenever a lib agrees with a Republican, they generally insult him.

I've yet to agree with you about anything concerning politics. Your ignorance and closed-mindedness make discussing anything seriously a complete waste of time. So I just settle for pouring scorn and ridicule on your incessent nonsense. :muahaha:

Props to manifold again. Go scorn and ridicule.

Actually, he didn't tell you to read the Federalist Papers. He just asked whether you had heard of them. I guess I am the one to tell you to read them.

Liberalism = socialism
Socialism = involuntary servitude
Involuntary servitude = slavery
Slavery = the antithesis of liberty
Thus
Liberalism = the antithesis of liberty.

No amount of 'accomplishment' can make up for that.

Liberalism is to Socialism as Conservatism is to Fascism.
These are simply points on the political spectrum. We have some liberal policies. That does not make us a slave-state in the absolute sense today.
