The noble lie is what is used with children all the time. "If you come home late, the goochy monster will get ya"

the noble lie is a way of propagating statistical truths and statistically succesful courses of action. "If you don't graduate from high school you'll never be anything." This is of course a pessimistic lie. I've known people who dropped out of middle school and became millionaires with over fourty retail locations in their ownership.
