AN outspoken federal government senator has been accused of using arguments about free speech to stop women accessing abortions.
NATIONALS senator Matthew Canavan moved a motion in the Senate on Monday which described a Greens' push to ban protests outside abortion clinics as an attack on free speech.
Labor and the Greens joined forces to shoot down the move, with Greens senator Larissa Waters describing it as a "clumsy and amateur attempt" to stop women accessing abortions.
