Abolish Welfare......Except For The Truly Needy

Yeah... it's called "MAKE THEM GET A JOB"!

I don't buy into that 'plan' of yours. It's redistribution of wealth, and that my good person, is "COMMUNISM".

I look at this way:

1) Give them a pittance in welfare -they stay in their neighborhood and my life stays nice.
or
2) Add razor wire to my gated community (and it is ugly) and hire armed guards. (in addition to my personal carry weapon – already not cheap, a good piece is not cheap and neither is going to the range to keep the aim sharp)

If under the new system I can put people in prison forever for robbery or assault AND the argument of self-defense becomes really easy to prove, but only for people with jobs maybe I would agree. Also prisons will have to get a lot cheaper to run – where else will we put the poor?

I picture the outcome very differently from you, I guess. If you eliminate welfare, there is no reason these people will get jobs. If you have been to Mexico, like Juarez or Mexico City, you might see where I get my picture from. At best, these people will just live on the street and beg for money, at worst they will become criminals.

Welfare ensures that I can live a comfortable life at minimal cost. I thought we all agreed we do not like poor lazy people and welfare was the market solution to keeping them away from me – it is more efficient to throw change to all of them at once. This is not a free-market versus communism question for me, but a question of marginal cost versus marginal benefit.

No offense, but you're part of the problem - not the solution. The problem is that they *know* people will continue to throw them money, and they will continue to milk it for all it's worth.

Wow you really are a brave person, might want to rethink a name change from Elephant to doormat.

Curious as to how appeasing welfare recipiants secures your autonomy??

Who is walking on me exactly? I will have to pay to keep the undesirables away from me no matter what. Currently it is quite cheap and sanctioned by the government - working together to keep the middle and upper class... well the middle and upper class!

I’ll try to make it as clear as possible for those of you finding it difficult to understand –

I pay to keep poor and stupid people, poor and stupid. I do want them to live a better life. I definitely do want you to tell them their lives are shit and that you can help empower them and give them hope and education. My life is awesome. I do not want beggars in the street and the crime rate to triple.

Welfare is the new opiate for the masses.

What else will they do? I know, how about revolt! That is what has happened in the past - check out history. If you shit on people for a long enough time they get it together and take what they want.

Currently we pay some of these people not to revolt. Some just go to jail.

Do you think they will all decide to build suburban sub-divisions and have cook-outs with their neighbors?

They had a chance at an education and to get jobs. They chose not to be like you and me. Taking away welfare will not change this decision.

What you seem to think will happen:

A group of welfare recipients get the office after Shattered takes over the US.

1: “Oh shit – no free checks! Hey everybody lets go to college!”
2: “Maybe our new leader, Shattered, will help us.”
1: “I love all the people who have better lives than me.”
2: “Me, too”
1 and 2 in unison: “All praise Shattered for our new found freedom from Welfare!”

What I think will happen:

1: “Oh shit – no free checks! Hey everybody lets go to college!”
2: “You mean to steal shit from the students, right?”
1: “No, but now that you mention it that would be easier.”
2: “I never liked the idea of work. That’s why I am on welfare to begin with.”
1 and 2 in unison: “All praise Shattered for giving us crime – the new Welfare!”

Finally "milk it for all it's worth" - They sure are milking me for a free ride to the good life. I wish I was on welfare.

Please clarify:

You would prefer that I put up razor wire and hire armed guards, right?

Elephant. appeasement only works for so long. They must be "mainstreamed" and disabused of their entitlement attitude. This is the "final solution". Though your campy elitism is good for laughs, it's not a practical long term solution! But you're funny!

I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I knew I could count on you, though!

You make an awful lot of crazy assumptions though.
First off welfare is not cheap, it costs billions of dollars from those that do work.

Secondly you assume that there is no hope for lazy people and that they will always be that way.....Sure they will if those pulling the wagon keep paying for those sitting in it. And what happens when those pulling the wagon become less and less and those riding multiply, as has happened since the inception of socialistic programs like welfare?

Lastly who are you to deny anyone the rigtht to earn and have a better life? I seriously doubt anyone taken off welfare and encouraged to work will wind up at your gated community as hobos panhandling.

What crazy assumptions?

Go to Mexico City, there are poor people EVERYWHERE begging for money.

I never denied anyone anything. I thought part of taxes went to education and prison work release programs- am I wrong? They chose to drop out of society.

For one person what is more expensive? life in prison or life on welfare?
