a was indecisive about binLaden mission

Good Lord. The utterly despicable and completely discredited "Ulsterman" strikes again.

And some of you guys fall for it.

Do yourselves a favor. Look up Ulsterman.

You should know this anonymous guy who claims to be a "white house insider" citing anonymous sources, has been known to completely fabricate stories out of whole cloth, inventing names of people and businesses that never existed, been caught so many times in outright lies, it's hard to count, but he does have a dramatic flair, and leaves enough literary breathing space in the "it could have happened minds" of the gullible wingers.

For example, a couple stories he pushed had the inside scoop about how Michelle Obama won't touch white people because she is a racist...oh and the one about Obama murdering his former gay lovers before the 2008 election was top notch.

In the hysterical, crazy world of who can write some great fiction that cons will actually believe department, this anonymous guy is a winna!

Has anyone seen this?
Q: You stated that President Obama was “overruled” by military/intelligence officials regarding the decision to send in military specialists into the Osama Bin Laden compound. Was that accurate?

A: I was told – in these exact terms, “we overruled him.” (Obama) I have since followed up and received further details on exactly what that meant, as well as the specifics of how Leon Panetta worked around the president’s “persistent hesitation to act.” There appears NOT to have been an outright overruling of any specific position by President Obama, simply because there was no specific position from the president to do so. President Obama was, in this case, as in all others, working as an absentee president.

This is MORONIC. Obama made the decision. He legally is the ONLY one that could authorize the use of American troops in a Foreign Country. Especially an ALLY we are on short terms with and that does not like our intrusions.

There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO credibility to this claim.

Give it up.

Obama ordered the mission, he authorized the use of troops and he authorized the shooting of Bin Laden as a possibility in said mission. HE DESERVES CREDIT FOR HIS DECISIONS.

Once again it is totally impossible that the head of the CIA could order a military mission in to a Foreign Country that might result in the loss of American troops lives , the capture of American troops or equipment. Further it is IMPOSSIBLE that the head of the CIA could order such a mission into an Allies Country where that ally does not approve of such operations.

I don't know. I've been saying right along that obama went along with the plan out of fear that had it got out that he didn't act, he would be worse off than if the mission failed. The article seems to support that.
The fact remains....The Obama Admin did what BUSHCO couldn't manage....WHACK bin Laden!!

We all know that there is a serious problem with transparency going on. Because of this fake stories can be floated and cause confusion.

I don't believe the story, but I do feel it's highly plausible.

At Ft Campbell yesterday I saw the way the President tried to get a Mission Accomplished moment going when he walked in that hanger. He was shaking hands with soldiers when he walked in the door. The soldiers were polite, but not acting like they were overly thrilled to be there. Somebody gave him a football jersey with the 101st Screaming Eagle patch on the shoulders. It was a nice touch.

I was there the last time Bush visited Ft Campbell Dec 08'. He showed up at 9:30 am ran up on the stage, thanked us and walked into the crowd to shake hands and thank everyone he could. He showed up on time. Obama was late and everyone had to wait a couple of hours to get out of the area. Bush had us out of there by 12pm. Obama, 6pm. Most of the guys just wanted a half a day off, yet they had to wait around for Obama to do his spiking of the football deal.

What a thrill. Just saying.

how Obama had shaped the final assault plan.

“I don’t want you to plan for an option that doesn’t allow you to fight your way out,” the President told operational planners at the meeting, according to the notes of one participant.

The backup landed to lift its passengers to safety. “The President created the ‘fight your way out’ option,” explained an administration official.

Obama Pushed for ‘Fight Your Way Out’ Option in bin Laden Raid

Do you really think he was the first to think of that? You really ARE insane.

If nothing else this was a fascinating read.

We have two choices, to believe the four stories that came from the administration about the raid or this wild story about the hesitancy about the president and the planning of the defense teams of the time of his absence of decision.

None of us can definitely know what happened and will never probably know.

Recent history and the constitution tells us some things:

It is only the CIC who can order these operations.

Recent history tells us the Obama is relunctant to make powerful decisions.

Gates has threatened to quit before.

Leaks that we knew where OBL was would make sense, the urgency to act is plausible.

What is this website? Who manages it? And who is it that gets their information?

No on on the board has the definitive answer of what is right or wrong... just opinions . But more insider knowledge would be necessary to believe this latest story, although it is plausible.

I would be careful not to fall for some story planted in the media giving credit to someone other then Obama.

However, after seeing the photo of where Obama was seated in the situation room it sure looks more feasible then of a President fully in charge of the mission. The scenario below makes more sense.

I have been told by more than one source that Leon Panetta was directing the operation with both his own CIA operatives, as well as direct contacts with military – both entities were reporting to Panetta only at this point, and not the President of the United States. There was not going to be another delay as had happened 24 hour earlier. The operation was at this time effectively unknown to President Barack Obama or Valerie Jarrett and it remained that way until AFTER it had already been initiated. President Obama was literally pulled from a golf outing and escorted back to the White House to be informed of the mission. Upon his arrival there was a briefing held which included Bill Daley, John Brennan, and a high ranking member of the military. When Obama emerged from the briefing, he was described as looking “very confused and uncertain.” The president was then placed in the situation room where several of the players in this event had already been watching the operation unfold. Another interesting tidbit regarding this is that the Vice President was already “up to speed” on the operation. A source indicated they believe Hillary Clinton had personally made certain the Vice President was made aware of that day’s events before the president was. The now famous photo released shows the particulars of that of that room and its occupants. What that photo does not communicate directly is that the military personnel present in that room during the operation unfolding, deferred to either Hillary Clinton or Robert Gates. The president’s role was minimal, including their acknowledging of his presence in the room.

I'm getting tired of all of the misinformation that has been released by the White House. I guess we'll never know what actually happened. It all depends on who you're willing to believe, and that really sucks.

At the conclusion of the mission, after it had been repeatedly confirmed a success, President Obama was once again briefed behind closed doors. The only ones who went in that room besides the president were Bill Daley. John Brennan, and a third individual whose identity remains unknown to me. When leaving this briefing, the president came out of it “…much more confident. Much more certain of himself.” He was also carrying papers in his hand that quite possibly was the address to the nation given later that evening on the Bin Laden mission. The president did not have those papers with him prior to that briefing. The president then returned to the war room, where by this time, Leon Panetta had personally arrived and was receiving congratulations from all who were present.

In my initial communication to you of these events I described what unfolded as a temporary Coup initiated by high ranking intelligence and military officials. I stand by that term. These figures worked around the uncertainty of President Obama and the repeated resistance of Valerie Jarrett. If they had not been willing to do so, I am certain Osama Bin Laden would still be alive today. There will be no punishment to those who acted outside the authority of the president’s office. The president cannot afford to admit such a fact. What will be most interesting from here is to now see what becomes of Valerie Jarrett. One source indicated she is threatening resignation. I find that unlikely given my strong belief she needs the protection afforded her by the Oval Office and its immense powers to delay and eventually terminate investigations back in Chicago, but we shall see.
I don't for a minute accept the entire article as fact. A lot of it is plausible, especially hillary clinton's role. Say what you will about the woman, but it seems she has more balls than the President and the rest of the cabinet combined
I found the article very interesting and thought it worthy of discussion here and linked it without much personal opinion.

Just yesterday I was thinking that perhaps you are not the most ignorant person on USMB. Thanks for reminding me just how stupid you can be.

You obviously were never involved in operational planning during all the years you were in the military in your universe. Either that, or you are actually from France.

Military planning always includes the "fight your way out" option. No plan survives contact with the enemy has been a fact of life since the very first time one group plotted out an attack on another. Anyone that does not realize that is not allowed to get high enough up in the military to present operational plans to the commander in chief in the first place.

I do not actually blame Obama's aides for trying to pass off the stupidity that he "created" the fight your way out potion, but I find anyone that actually believes it too stupid for words.

Obama Pushed for ‘Fight Your Way Out’ Option in bin Laden Raid

I am thinking that the Navy Seals could use a guy like Obama. A guy experienced in fighting his way out...of...

FDR was in a chair. He led the US through Europe, Africa and Asia.

Why is it right wingers can't give the black guy credit on anything? Is the hate that big? They carded him. They've hounded him. He was right in getting Bin Laden when McCain called him "naive" and said we wouldn't go into Pakistan because they are our friends, no matter what the intelligence. Bush said he didn't think about Bin Laden six months after 9/11. Worse, he disbanded the CIA unit that was formed for the sole purpose of getting Bin Laden. The unit Obama started up again when he took office.

Obama said his number one priority was to get Bin Laden FROM DAY ONE. After Bush said, "Truly I'm not concerned with Bin Laden. I just don't care". Yet Republicans want to "take credit". AND they are still calling Obama names. 8 in 10 Republicans think Bush is the one we should be thanking, the guy who gave up. Who turned down the invitation to the 9/11 ceremony.

Palin said Obama "pals around with terrorists".

I'm not even going to quote what that rat Cheney and his awful daughter have been saying since Obama took office.

Almost every month, there is another story about Obama taking out another major Al Qaeda leader and finally, he got the biggest one of all, including massive amounts of intel.

But Republicans hate him and despise him so much, they can't give him any credit. They even question his schooling.

It's the Republicans exposing themselves as a "dirty party" NOT Obama. But I already knew that.

I am quite willing to give him credit, I just refuse to credit him for taking care of the sick, giving jobs to the jobless, slowing the rise of the ocean, healing the planet, ending a war that is still going on, and turning America into the last, best hope for mankind. In other words, he wants credit for everything, and you are willing to give it to him. Refusing to do that is not me refusing to give him credit, it is me understanding that he has simply not done most of the things you want him to have credit for.

By the way, if bin Laden was Obama's #1 priority, what does that do to all of his other #1 priorities? Why did we know where he was for months, and only seriously start planning the raid last month?

This should be merged with the other thread like this so we do not have to repeat ourselves every time some idiot finds this.

To be fair, some of the crowd Obama runs with probably wanted them to bring flowers and a nice invitation for bin Laden to come address the UN about how evil the US is.

Wrong. The basic order to send troops into Pakistan would require a Presidential order. Any order to send armed troops into a compound inside the borders of Pakistan would require a Presidential order. Any order to kill people inside Pakistan BY on the ground US troops would require a Presidential order.

A local commander can not simply wake up one morning and order troops into a foreign Sovereign nation. And the CIA director can not do so either. Basic concepts and facts. No such order is legal or valid unless it is issued with the CONSENT and AUTHORITY of the President. No officer would accept such orders without some basic assurance that the President had ordered it.
