A teen party Friday night in Chester that ended with two dead and nine injured amid a spray of gunfire left neighbors to bemoan the escalating violence in this poverty-ravaged Delaware County city.

"The city's becoming a war zone," James Johnson said Saturday. For 20 years, he has lived across the street from the scene of the shootings, Minaret Temple No. 174, a Masonic hall at West Fourth and Ward Streets.

The hall had been rented for a party Friday and was packed with teenagers and young adults when someone opened fire about 11:30 p.m.

Butler said word of the party apparently spread on Facebook, attracting teenagers from Philadelphia and Salem, N.J.

Sickening.

If this had happened in L.A., it would almost certainly have been gang related. I don't see any indication of that here. Interesting. In fact, it makes it worse. At least, when something like this is gang related, there is a partially rational explanation for it.

Two dead and 8 injured and no one has been arrested for murder.

Over the weekend, Chester police arrested three in connection with the fatal shootings, including Carlisha Coleman, 19, the hostess of the party, who was charged with resisting arrest and risking a catastrophe; a juvenile who faces similar charges; and another juvenile charged with weapons-related offenses.
