A van dashed on two bus shelters Monday morning in Marseille, killing a pedestrian and wounding another before being intercepted by the police, who arrested the driver. The "psychiatric trail" is privileged.
A commercial vehicle drove Monday morning on two bus shelters in Marseille, killing a pedestrian and wounding another before the driver was stopped by the LAC in the downtown area on the Old Port. The man arrested, born in 1982 in La Tronche near Grenoble (Isère) and living near La Mure, would be "unfavorably known to the police", especially for car thefts, police sources said.
He would not reside in the city, according to a police source. The judicial police of Marseille and Lyon were seized. "There is no element to describe this act as a terrorist," Marseille prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux told AFP. "The investigation is oriented more towards a psychiatric trail," he added, adding that a "letter linked to a psychiatric clinic" had been found on him. Shortly after noon, the man was still heard by the police.

The facts took place between 6:30 am and 7:30 am. The suspect, driving a white Renault Master van, darted on a first bus shelter in the 13th arrondissement, causing a serious injury, before re-offending in the 11th arrondissement an hour later, killing a woman of 42 years. Julien Ravier, mayor of the 11th and 12th arrondissements, told BFMTV that the deceased victim was waiting alone at the bus stop.
The vehicle in question was, a few minutes later, immobilized by the police on the Old Port, and the anti-criminality brigade carried out the arrest of the driver. The van was stolen, according to the floor. "Police operation in progress", tweeted shortly after the police of the Bouches-du-Rhone, "Avoid the Old Port area boulevard Charles Livon".
