Very interesting, even though a lot of the footage is of the Ainu.

Besides that, it is mind bogling to see a nation, which was truly backwards in 1919 (even though they did defeat the Russian navy in 1905) and yet they rose in 20 years to a level of technological sophistication which allowed them to take on the US. The 2014 Studio Gibhli film "The wind rises" gives some insight in this as well btw...great movie and a must see for anyone, interested in Japanese early years development.

A tip though,play the video at 0.5 speed and the "Nikko" shrine is NOT a shrine for the emperor worship as stated but for the Shogunat (even though abolished in 1868 it was still worshipped as Japanese usually do with things that might have fallen out of favor,yet left a legacy)
