Janet Napolitano (born November 29, 1957) is the current governor of the U.S. state of Arizona, and a member of the Democratic Party, originally elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. She is Arizona's third female governor, and the first woman to win re-election. In November 2005, Time magazine named her one of the five best governors in the U.S.

In the annual "The Smartest State Award," Arizona got last place.

Researchers at Morgan Quitno Press reached that conclusion after they analyzed calculations from federal agencies and census data.

Why Arizona ranks dead last among the states in 'Smartest' study

Arizona has the worst budget deficit situation in the U.S., according to one group's figures.

An analysis by the liberal Center for Budget & Policy Priorities shows Arizona with the worst budget deficit in terms of the shortfall's percentage of state spending.

Arizona's estimated $1.7 billion deficit is 16.2 percent of state spending, according to CBPP.

Arizona budget deficit labeled country's worst - Phoenix Business Journal:

Categories where Arizona ranked the worst--in the bottom 10% of all states:
Crime rate
State Prisoner Incarceration Rate
Pupil-Teacher Ratio in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools
Public Libraries and Branches
Teenage Birth Rate
Highway Fatality Rate
Books in Public Libraries Per Capita
Home Ownership Rate
Percent of Eligible Population Reported Voting

Arizona - Not a Livable State

So President-Elect Obama has choosen our Gov. to be on his transition team. It is even rumored that she is being considered for Attorney General, well if her record here is any indication of the kind of job she will do for the nation I submit that perhaps the Obama team should reconsider.

Hell, with the Democratic "mandate" now in place, that coke can could look like a Chia pet and she'll still be fine, as will any nominee that Obama sends before Congress.

It will be interesting to see how many judges (and of what ilk) will get fired at Presidential whim, how many (if any) signing statements Obama pens, and if he ever uses "executive privilege" in any manner to supress "the right to know."
