Boy,what a wonderful job they did. Had that been an oil company that did it the fines would be astronomical, butg, as it was done "to make things better" the perps get a free pass even though they did more damage than any oil company ever has.

That too was an issue of containment. MTBE was railroaded out of the equation by the very powerful and influential agriculture lobby in order to clear the way for ethanol. Now it is ethanol polluting groundwater along with ag practices of the last several decades.
That's absolutely true. However ethanol will at least oxidise away in a relatively short time, MTBE sticks around for decades at least. Here in Tahoe there are over 100 wells contaminated by MTBE that can't be used till they find a way to get rid of the shit. All the while they talk about Tahoe's clarity they are poisoning the land around it.

The anti-nuclear fanatics and environmental frauds organizations set up this nation to be blackmailed by the oil producing countries. Thirty years ago, they killed all expansion and development of nuclear power in this country by spreading scare stories that are whole cloth lies. And they persist today. There has been only one serious nuclear accident in the U.S. in over forty years, Three Mile Island . It was caused by idiot operators who deliberately shut down the safety equipment in the plant. This caused the plant to be destroyed, but no damage to the surrounding population. The billion-dollar containment dome over the nuclear reactor contained all radioactivity, just as it was designed to do. After Three Mile Island , the anti-nuclear fanatics forced this nation to build hundreds of filthy coal burning power plants to supply this nations energy needs. They loaded our atmosphere with billions of tons of greenhouse gases and thousands of tons of radioactive elements from
the coal burning power plants. Much the same environmental fear mongers and frauds als demanded that we put most of our oil resources off limits to drilling and production. This has left us totally dependent on oil from overseas for two-thirds of our needs.
Interesting. Sounds like Dr. Wattenburg has a pretty realistic position on global warming, and the externalities of coal fired generation.
