Detainees to Get Protections Under Geneva Conventions

By Fred Barbash
Washington Post Staff Writer

The Bush administration, in an apparent policy reversal sparked by a recent Supreme Court ruling, said today it will extend the guarantees of humane treatment specified by the Geneva Conventions to detainees in the war-on-terror.

I was not aware the Supreme Court ruling would require that. Was it a legal reason or a political reason for the change of policy?

I would think its politcal. He is bowing down to the wishes of the liberals.

Wish we had a president with the balls to be a real conservative.

How is that a reversal? Those fockers have been treated in accordance to those conventions since day one; in practice, if not in label.

Actually they are treated much better. They don't have to do hard labor, which in the old days at least we could make POWs do.

It's nearing election time. Enough said.

Sadly, yes.

No way enemy combatants should be treated to the Geneva convention when they themselves do not recognize it for our troops. Can't have it both ways. With that said, they still are treated way better then our troops and civilians are when they are captured by them.

agreed...they get 3 hots and a cot, bathroom facilities, prayer rugs, copies of the koran....why are some so hell bent to hold the U.S. to the geneva conventions, when our captured troops are not afforded those very protections?? we put our prisoners up, feed and house them, make sure they have the proper materials to practice their religion, and in return, our guys get to have a blindfold over their eyes, make a video, and then get to scream in agony and horror and a saw blade slices through their throats.....again, why are we being held to the geneva conventions???? anyone???:2guns:

I keep hearing that the reason is that we are "above all that" and need to set a good example. :dunno:
Is it working?:dunno:
