I wonder how many times this nation has been described as "going under"? I suspect the worst times were the Civil War and Great Depression. The "out" party has to sing that song the loudest, it is part of the politics of a democracy.

So in that case Somalia is a thriving democracy?

At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, when queried as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation—in the notes of Dr. James McHenry, one of Maryland’s delegates to the Convention.

Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”

“A Republic, if you can keep it.”

Happy Birthday my dear US of A

from a Constitutional Republic

to a

Gargantuan bankrupt welfare/warfare police state

For shame

.

We're still a republic, the government we got (tea bagger red majority in congress) is the one we voted for.

Some told the red states that Obama Care wouldn't work and they all ran to the polls to put inexperienced rubes in place to shut down the government multiple times...

They could have actually worked and done something to modify and fix the health care law, but no, they spent tens of millions on votes to repeal it... publicity stunts... ha!!

And now look who we have on the Repub ticket.. That man was chosen by our fellow Americans. They actually believe he is qualified for POTUS....

Our Founders are, no doubt, rolling in their graves. You are witness to a once great Nation in its' final days.

I remember a hippie song from the 60s (or rather some of the lyrics) - I "believe" that it was Steppenwolf that went something like this:

"we'll stick our heads into the sand; just pretend that all is grand,
and hope that everything turns ok"

Welcome to 21st Century America.
We are the richest, most powerful country in the world. We lead the world in pop culture, entertainment, technology development and foreign affairs. We hold the worlds most stable currency which serves as the worlds reserve currency.
What makes you think we are in our final days? Come back to reality

The US declared bankruptcy in 1935

The National Debt is 20 trillion dollars

Our meddlesome deadly foreign affairs suck - the " islamofascists" seek to retaliate against the US, TSA gestapo harass Americans at the airports

That our private industry - entertainment , technology is able to survive despite the US confiscatory taxation and suffocating regulations is truly amazing
Oh boy, where to start... Your 1935 comment, do I really need to address that? It was 1933 btw.
Moving on to modern times...
The debt is one of the biggest farce fear tactics used by the right. It's not even a "debt" in the traditional sense, and the majority of it reflects investment owned the public. There is no way we can default on it, we are an issuer of our own currency, so what is your fear? I agree we need an economic boost and I'd love to see our debt to GDP ratio drop but we aren't at the edge of the cliff. Unemployment is low, interest rates are low, investment is active... Your fear and complaints are largely in your head or a result of your lack of economic knowledge.

I own 3 businesses and have never felt strangled by taxes or regulations. Yes they are annoying but unless youRe making millions or youre in an oil/gas type industry you still have plenty of opportunity.

‘Abott and Costello’ on Unemployment

ATT00001.jpg

COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.

ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible Times. It’s 5.6%.

COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?

ABBOTT: No, that’s 23%.

COSTELLO: You just said 5.6%.

ABBOTT: 5.6% Unemployed.

COSTELLO: Right 5.6% out of work.

ABBOTT: No, that’s 23%.

COSTELLO: Okay, so it’s 23% unemployed.

ABBOTT: No, that’s 5.6%.

COSTELLO: WAIT A MINUTE. Is it 5.6% or 23%?

ABBOTT: 5.6% are unemployed. 23% are out of work.

COSTELLO: If you are out of work you are unemployed.

ABBOTT: No, Obama said you can’t count the “Out of Work” as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.

COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!!!

ABBOTT: No, you miss his point.

COSTELLO: What point?

ABBOTT: Someone who doesn’t look for work can’t be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn’t be fair.

COSTELLO: To whom?

ABBOTT: The unemployed.

COSTELLO: But ALL of them are out of work.

ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work.

Those who are out of work gave up looking and if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.

COSTELLO: So if you’re off the unemployment roles that would count as less unemployment?

ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!

COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don’t look for work?

ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That’s how it gets to 5.6%. Otherwise it would be 23%.

COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means there are two ways to bring down the unemployment number?

ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.

COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?

ABBOTT: Correct.

COSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?

ABBOTT: Bingo.

COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier

of the two is to have people stop looking for work.

ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like a Democrat.

COSTELLO: I don’t even know what the hell I just said!

ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like Hillary.

How does CAPITALISM enable a warfare state?

WARFARISM IS A FASCISTIC CHARACTERISTIC

.
What is Fascism (political ideology) without Capitalism (economic ideology)? Even RP admits they go hand in hand.

The economic dimensions of this military agenda must be clearly understood. War and Globalization are intimately related. These military and intelligence operations are implemented alongside a process of economic and political destabilization targeting specific countries in all major regions of World.

Neoliberalism is an integral part of this foreign policy agenda. It constitutes an all encompassing mechanism of economic destabilization. Since the 1997 Asian crisis, the IMF-World Bank structural adjustment program (SAP) has evolved towards a broader framework which consists in ultimately undermining national governments’ ability to formulate and implement national economic and social policies.

In turn, the demise of national sovereignty was also facilitated by the instatement of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995, evolving towards the global trading agreements (TTIP and TPP) which (if adopted) would essentially transfer state policy entirely into the hands of corporations. In recent years, neoliberalism has extend its grip from the so-called developing countries to the developed countries of both Eastern and Western Europe. Bankruptcy programs have been set in motion. Island, Portugal, Greece, Ireland, etc, have been the target of sweeping austerity measures coupled with the privatization of key sectors of the national economy.

Then RP and yourself do not know your ass from a hole in the ground.

Or if you are a fascist then the conclusion is self serving

Fascism: A Bipartisan Affliction
Fascism’s distinguishing characteristic is a “mixed economy.” Unlike socialists and communists who seek to abolish private business, fascists are content to let business remain in private hands. Instead, fascists use regulations, mandates, and taxes to control business and run (and ruin) the economy. A fascist system, then, is one where private businesses serve politicians and bureaucrats instead of consumers. Does the modern American economy not fit the definition of fascism?

So English Comprehension is not your forte:

Fascism is similar to AIDS - invades a country and kills it from within
.
Regarding your definition of socialism I'd say we aren't even close to that, not even Bernie. Nobody is even whispering about abolishing private business, but rather trying to support small businesses and boost the middle class. Limiting fraud and abuse of big business by imposing regulations to promote fair competition and environmental protections don't fit your definition either.

Per your definition of fascism, i don't see anywhere a plan to control businesses to a point where it only serves politicians with the goal of ruining the economy... If you see that happening then point to specifics or please stop spreading these over bloated lies.

The naive , ignorant never cease to amaze me

Under fascism, the government:

  • is managed by a powerful leader (even if he or she assumes office by way of the electoral process)
  • assumes it is not restrained in its power (this is authoritarianism, which eventually evolves into totalitarianism)
  • ostensibly operates under a capitalist system while being undergirded by an immense bureaucracy
  • emits powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism through its politicians
  • has an obsession with national security while constantly invoking terrifying internal and external enemies
  • establishes a domestic and invasive surveillance system and develops a paramilitary force that is not answerable to the citizenry
  • and its various agencies (federal, state, and local) develop an obsession with crime and punishment (this is overcriminalization)
  • becomes increasingly centralized while aligning closely with corporate powers to control all aspects of the country’s social, economic, military, and governmental structures
  • uses militarism as a center point of its economic and taxing structure
  • and is increasingly imperialistic in order to maintain the military-industrial corporate forces

The use of the term "mixed economy" here refers to state intervention in a capitalist market system. A system built on private ownership of the means of production.

So again I ask you, what is Fascism without Capitalism?

And to address RP's question.

A fascist system, then, is one where private businesses serve politicians and bureaucrats instead of consumers. Does the modern American economy not fit the definition of fascism?

The answer is no, he has it backwards. Our politicians serve corporations instead of the people who elect them. We don't have Fascism here, we have Corporatism. And our foreign policies reflect this arrangement.

Wrong again.

Fascism is a branch of SOCIALISM

So fascists have CORRECTLY concluded that bureaucrats suck at managing businesses.

So they created a "mixed" economy system where the entrepreneur in allowed to manage his company under heavy regulations and government control.

Fascism is unrelated to Socialism. In fact Fascism rose to prominence during times of economic distress brought on by the failures of Capitalism. The Fascists violently suppressed growing Socialist and Communist movements while turning people's attention to ideas of Nationalism, the overriding characteristic of Fascism and the reason it is deemed to be in the right sphere of politics. You play loosely with the terms in order to mold them to fit your ideology thereby rendering them to be meaningless rhetoric.
