A Refresher Course for our Members:

Just a quick "Thank You" to all of the Moderators and administrators who run this play pen. I thoroughly enjoy reading the posts and running off at the mouth. Fingers.

Pushing the opinions of others into my little head helps to stretch my own sensibilities. I'm sure that this vent has helped many of our number to avoid going postal.

USMB Rules & Regulations

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some revisions exist (3/30/07):
________________________________________
In an effort to maintain the integrity of USmessageboard.com and to provide a comfortable environment for people to communicate, we ask that you please follow the guidelines when posting on this site. These guidelines are global and are effective on every area on this site.

Any comments posted on the USmessageboard.com that violate our guidelines are routinely removed.

We reserve the right to close the accounts of persistent violators of these guidelines at any time and without warning.

Registration Guidelines:
Individuals are allowed one account. Anyone found to be in violation risks having all accounts banned. We have several tools at our disposal to identify multis. We use them. You may think you can get away with it, but you can't. So don't.

Posting Guidelines:

When posting a new topic, please select the forum that best relates to the subject matter of your topic. If you are unsure, contact a moderator or the admin. Cross posting is not allowed and is considered spam. When posting a new topic do not use the CAPS lock. It is hard to read and is considered yelling. When replying in an existing topic it is fine to use CAPS or bold to highlight main points.

Any off-topic posts will be deleted or moved to an appropriate forum as per administrator & moderator discretion.

Attachments & Links:
Images, material or links to images and or material, whether real, satirical or implied, depicting obscene, indecent, or pornographic acts (at Moderator/Admin discretion) are not permitted. This includes Gifs and cartoons.

Language Guidelines:
Foul language (profanity) used in USmessageboard.com will be loosely tolerated and at the moderators discretion. Derogatory statements directed at other members as well as direct or indirect personal attacks are permitted with the stipulation that you generally look like a fool when resorting to these tactics within a serious conversation on real issues. If you're comfortable playing the fool, feel free to do so.

If someone really gets to you and you feel the need to vent, please do so within the confines of the Taunting Arena. If you don’t have thick skin and the ability to take abuse, it is better to walk away from a possible confontation and come back with constructive arguments.

Attacks on family members will not be tolerated and will be subject to action by an Admin/Mod. Action taken could range from a warning to banning and will be at Admin/Mod discretion. The only exception to this is IF a member brings his/her family member(s) into the conversation first.

Please note that direct or implied threats of violence towards another member and/or threats of any action meant to disrupt a member's normal life will be dealt with severely (minimum 10 day ban).

All members have the right to their own ideas, beliefs and faiths. Members have the right to constructively express these on USmessageboard.com with equal respect and consideration.

PM Guidelines:
If exclusively personal contact is needed, use the Private Message system. Do not post a topic where only one member is expected to answer. Posting and Language guidelines extend to the PM system. USmessageboard.com maintains the privacy of its’ users and will not access Private Messages unless ordered to do so by a Court of Law.

Posting information gained through private messages is prohibited unless specific permission is granted in a public forum and/or to a USMB staff member from the member who is a participant in the PM conversation.

Rep System Guidelines:
Our reputation system is designed to provide a feedback and credibility mechanism. Abuse of the system (repeated neg repping of the same person without cause or positive rep "trading" among users) will not be tolerated. Rep system abuse will result in warnings to cease. Continued abuse will result in random acts of rep manipulation of abusers by admins. Abuse the system, and we will mercilessly toy with you.

Copyright Guidelines:

Copyright infringement is illegal. USmessageboard.com will enforce the law. Never post an article in its entirety. When posting copyrighted material, please use small sections or link to the article. When posting copyrighted material you MUST give credit to the author in your post. You are responsible for including links/credit, regardless of how you originally came across the material.

Advertising:

Advertising for personal gain of any kind is not permitted in any forum or by private message. Posting website links will be permitted occasionally, but will be dealt with on a case by case basis. This does not apply to member signatures.

Contact Guidelines:

When contacting the administrator or a specific moderator please make use of our Private Message system or email us. Do not post a topic in a forum regarding your situation.

Privacy:
Please do not reveal any personal contact information about yourself or others such as full name, address, phone number and even email. This is a public place and anyone is able to view your messages. Posting the personal information of other posters, regardless of how you've obtained it, is considered threatening behavior and you will likely find yourself with an involuntary vacation from this site if you repeatedly engage in such actions.

General:

All messages express the views of the author, not necessarily the views of the forum owners. The owners and moderators of USmessageboard.com reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. This policy goes for member profile information as well. Member signatures may not be longer than ten (10) lines.

Disciplinary Action:
If any of the above is violated a warning or infraction will be issued to the offending member. If enough infraction points add up the offending member will be banned for 10 days. If the behavior continues after the 10 day ban the user will be permanently removed from USmessageboard.com. Circumstances such as spammers will skip the infraction system and be banned immediately. Multiple accounts are not permitted so do not reregister.

TO REPORT VIOLATIONS: If you witness a posting that violates these terms, please click the red exclamation mark button at the top right side of the post and it will be reviewed by staff. USmessageboard.com cannot guarantee that any action will be taken as a result of your request. Please refer to this Disclaimer page from time to time for any updates we may make to it.

Thank you for visiting USmessageboard.com, and we hope you enjoy the community!

I generally like the rules of USMB and appreciate their right to impose whatever rules they like. This site is one of the few on the web that actually allows and encourages free speech to the point where people can feel comfortable posting essentially whatever they want, no matter how unpopular or factually unsound or even offensive...

But I still contend that it isn't a copywright violation to post articles in their entirety as long as you reference the source fully. I have no problem with the rule, however, as it prevent yahoos from posting ridiculously long posts which can mistakenly be attributed to the poster, and which take up too much space. But my understanding (and I could be wrong) is that once something is published, it is in no way a copywright violation to circulate that publication in it's entirety ON THE INTERNET, so long as it isn't done for gain and so long as proper due is given.

I could be wrong. But as I said, I like the rule or you have idiots who never post their own crap and just pull stuff from other places and bore the crap out of everyone who reads it, but I don't believe it's an actual infringement.

You could be correct AB. There have been many instances where I've come across the very same article written by the very same person on several different websites, when I'm sure the author didn't publish it to all them him/herself.

But, as Dell pointed out, if the board is taking heat from people about posting full articles, I'd say rule against it. That and your point. Some twits here post ridiculously long articles, and then reply's are made using quote, and pages get absurdly long.

How long?

One point this has reminded me of is sometimes the author will have attached the phrase 'no reproduction of this article (etc.) in whole or part without written permission of the author'. I have, until now, forgotten to look for that.

EZ said "Member."
Yeah...yeah....Then she said "staff"...heh-heh-heh.....

Octopus and Squid vs Wimmin should be added to the description of "pornographic acts."
