When your Child asks you why there is a "Black History Month" but there isn't a "White History Month", what will be, or has been your Response?

They are either Learning about it in School, or even on PBS Programming and other Children's Programming.

What do you Tell them is the Reason that some Races have a Specific Month Dedicated to their History and others do not?

What should a Parent who is Asked that say in your Opinion, if you have not had the Occassion yourself?

:)

peace...

Tell that white republican child, he already has 11 other months designed for him. It wasn't too long ago, the entire year was his.

For a long time it was considered impolitic to mention the contributions that Americans of African descent have made to this nation. Black history month is not just for people that have African blood, it is for all Americans.

The same goes for Native Americans. All one sees in popular mythology is the plains warrior. No mention of the Native American farmer that gave the world many of the most important crops of today, corn, potatoes, and tomatoes being just the beginning of the many domesticated by Native Americans.

I've been asked that, and it was "Why is there a black history month and not an Appalachian history month?" and I answered "Well honey, we don't need a month to feel good about ourselves, black history month is a sad attempt about feeling good about yourelf and it's pathetic".

Because you know, you gotta be Republican to ask relevant racial questions.

Where's Appalachian History Month ? Our blood and violence ensured America would exist, we destroyed the British Army in the southern colonies. We've sent scientests, scholars, indsturialists, inventers, and politicians that changed the world.

But where is my month ?

did you have to speak loudly so they could hear you through the hood, or did you cut out a hole for your mouth, senator byrd?

Actually, Mal, just tell the truth. Blacks were brought here as slaves and after a long battle for civil rights were granted a month to finally acknowledge the contributions by black people. Tell them it will not be long that this will be unnecessary.

Can I tell them that MANY Whites Sacrificed and Died for their Freedoms?...

Could we have a Month Dedicated to those Whites who Fought for Freedom for the Slaves, and Sacrificed EVERYTHING for it?...

And in that Month we could also Acknowledge the Courageous Whites in Congress who Passed the '64 Civil Rights Bill, while Ignorant Redneck Fuckstains like the DemocRAT "Conscience of the Senate" Filibustered it, yet Stays as a Beloved Member of that Party to this Day?...

That would be a GREAT Start and Historically Educational.

That way little Children, of ALL Races, can Know that White People have Made some Valuable Contributions to Society as we Know it also, are NOT just Guilty of having the Same Skin Color as those who Purchased Black Slaves from Africans.

:)

Not just some contributions but most at this point but I see no reason to go into that tangent with a child LOL. Give them room to figure stuff out for themselves. I used to be very bitter toward blacks and still am to a point. I have met too many good people in my life, (including blacks), to just blanket an entire race with my bitterness. I take those I meet one at a time now and measure them not on skin color but who they are as a person and I have given my children that freedom also. I purposely chose a multicultural area with good schools to live in so their exposure was vast. So far I have seen one black friend and one Arab friend. Neither lasted long and I never question it.

Can I ask how old you are? You are a man who talks with experience in life and wisdom. Something this board needs at times. I respect the Black ppl who have contributed to this country but the only one who truly matters is our Creator. The ppl on this board need to realize that whether it's a Black or White month it really does not matter. Does God care? Are you more concerned about that than HIM??

For someone your Age, that's Great... but for a Child who Asks, why do we Focus so much on ONE Race, what do you Tell them?...

I Know Hispanics who Ask these same Questions.

There is NO Month Like Black History Month.

Black History Month is about recovering culture lost to slavery and the effort to achieve equal rights. I would say that whites never lost their culture nor equal rights therefore have nothing to celebrate.

It's Unfair to Current and Future Generations of Black and White Children who will Judge each other the Color of their Skin, and NOT the "Content of their Character"...

Children see the Focus on Race...

They don't Understand the Context of the History, especially when it's so Fucking One-Sided...

Children are NOT Obsessively Taught that Whites Sacrificed EVERYTHING to Free them...

They are Taught their Ancestors where the Oppressors and in that they are Fed Guilt from an Early Age.

It's Time to Move on... Or at Least be Equal in the Teaching and Focus on Race.

So if you want White History Month then do what Blacks did and work to create it. And I am not sure I understand how we aren't taught about white sacrifices for equality. Certainly I was taught about Abolition, John Brown, Lincoln, and the erasure of Jim Crow. These are all taught in my children's school district. If they aren't taught in yours then then get off your butt and have your curriculum changed.

Get off my Butt... That's Cute.

I have Illustrated the Inequality in the Focus on Blacks for a Month as Compared with ANY other Race...

In March we will watch and see how Much "Irish" History we will see out of PBS and the Public School System...

I don't Think we should Focus on ANY Race...

And I Certainly don't Think we should Focus so Exclusively on One over the others.

Specifically when it's Directed at Children who are those Races.
