A question for any experienced guitar players here.

For a hobby guitarist trying to choose between either building a new pedal board to replace my Boss GT-100 processor (or use in addition to) or upgrading to the new Boss Gt-1000 what would you suggest ?

First the Gt 100 ($500 new 5 years ago) is awesome as shown here;

I really love it
but most of my favorite guitarists, like EVH, Andy Timmons, Joe Satriani
and Paul Gilbert;


But for less than you'd pay 10 different pedals you can get this;

Here's the Boss GT100 with, my Washburn and just a little 1x12 practice amp but any amp sounds great through this thing, you know even headphones for 3am when everyone else is sleeping right ? You see the book laying on that bottom speaker ? That is the half inch thick instruction manual which I've barely read.

i thought the Boss series is as good as it gets Ange. IIRC, they can DI with tip/ring/send, vs. XLR?

I got a lotta 6 strings ,gibsons, fenders, etc...but everyone has wanted me as a bassplayer since the 70's Ange , so take what i say with a grain of salt.

What i can tell you is, i've played with a lot of guitarists , most of whom are always searching for a sound to fit the genre they're doing. (i went though mutlitudes of pedals and amps w/335 gibby after seeing BB)

Seems many go the same route, but some...some end up throwing it all away, i guess one might call them purists? they end up focused on their fingers , maybe the amp's speaker....right hand technique, etc.

I really only still use the boss dig. delay and a digitech drum machine., besides the effects processor, and I'm looking for a good used Crate Blue Voodoo tube amp, and another Marshall 100 (already have a 4 x 12 jbl's)...a hs buddy of mine from Ohio plays keyboards (really well - his band covered everything years ago, but he's a computer software engineer now) and has a studio at his house in Dallas with drums, bass and some guitars along with all his keyboards and so we might do something.

Paul plays 8s on the top now to get the 'easy BB whole note bends with the first finger....

Are you going to rebuild or upgrade? What advice are you looking for? Do you know how to build a ne pedal board? Is that the cheapest route? It’s a pain in the ass? Let us know what you decide. I don’t think you need advice I think you need to make a decision then rock out with your cock out.

It’s been my experience that I spent more time fiddling with the knobs on the pedals trying to get the “perfect sound” than actually playing and improving my skills on the guitar.

So I ditched them all except for the OCD and even that I use sparingly.

You’ve probably heard this a million times before but tone really is in the fingers.
