first, thanks so huge for adding this section..i wasnt a frequent poster here but i did lurk..but was turned off by all the hateful crap i saw in every post..so i appreciate this and i read this forum now more than i did before. im hoping to participate more in the future :)

my question is:

is there a country out there now or in the past that has been successful in implementing
positions similar to the american republican party? that has been both financially and socially
successful?

admittedly, im only interested in politics for a few years so i welcome a discussion on the viability of such policies as recommended by the republican party.

thanks all.

EDIT: my impression of republican positions..sorry didnt add that before.

small gov/anti-tax/anti-abortion/anti-marriage equality/cutting medicare/medicaid/low regulation..

OP needs to outline what he thinks are Republican positions.

ahh..sorry shouldnt assume folks will just know what i mean :p

small gov/anti-tax/anti-abortion/anti-marriage equality/cutting medicare/medicaid/low regulation..

stuff like that..

is there a government out there with similar positions that actually works well?

and the op is a 'she' :)

Just a little country called America ... heard of it? Moving away from many of those policies is destroying it.

America prior to the defection of democrats into socialism was hugely successful.

how would marriage equality destroy america?

It destroyed every other society that normalized the practice. It's toxic. It is an acceptance that depravity is normal. When started, the trend never stops until the society is fully decayed and corrupt.

I don't think you'll find any western nation that has all of those positions.

You have to separate them 1st, between the policy positions and the religious ones. America is a conservative nation, one of the the most conservative of the western nations, so I don't think the moral positions are relevant.

As to the policies, sure there are other countries similar to us that have political parties that hold those ideals. However I've never heard or read of any country that is solely dominated by those principals. The best thing is to struck a balance between parties and to understand that both sides have valid points that can and do work, depending on the climate of the country at the time.

you have documentation proving this? or is just an opinion?

America was all that and more.

It was so successful that people came form every country, many risking death to get here.

I don't think marriage equality is a bad thing. Keep government out of it. But its not my top priority. No political party can be everything to everyone. I have to choose the one that meshes with most of my views.

Now you know why we level invective at them after talking to them for years and never seeing anything learned by them.

There has never been a country that lived by those tennets and prospered

ok so if we remove the religious aspect?

what then?

we are left with small gov/low-taxes/deregulation

is there a county..and it doesnt have to be a western country..that is successful doing this?

and i think compromise is vital to the success of any government. in my opinion it is vital to have opposing sides build on common ground for something both sides can live with.

I would say, you can't compare America to non-industrialized nations. Then you have to define "small government", because we are unique in our set up and I think when most republicans say limited goverment they are referring to the federal, not the state.

both actually

But we actually know that people are different and have different wants and needs.

ex; I should not have to pay for a high speed rail in CA since I don't live in Ca. And a person living in CA should not have to pay for fracking regs in PA.

The best government is local. Voting for people you know is way better than hoping this time the devil I don't know is better.
