A plea to my Conservative brothers and sisters.

As someone pointed out on the other thread, not allowing gays to be married is a political issue because of the inheritance, income tax, etc. ramifications.

Civil rights are one of the most important issues in our country, in good times and bad.

The economy will recover and the US will be great again....but making laws to take away rights and liberties is about as un-American as it gets.

So in reality, the Republicans need to reflect on that fact.

You don't actually believe the economy is going to recover under Obama, do you?

Do you realize that Obama has done his share of removing civil rights?

BBC News - Obituary: Anwar al-Awlaki

Obamacare anyone?

Immie

Yeah, he's sure not big on due process.

Yo........Immie!

Who said shit was perfect? You have issues.

You have implied such. It is not anywhere near being perfect. It is not "better than it was on January 20th, 2009". Not even near as good as things were back then. Not for a hell of a lot of people that your god has driven onto the unemployment lines.

Yeah, I have issues alright. Obamacare has made employers scared to hire above the bare minimum necessary to run their business. I'm one of those who has lost his job thanks to the policies of the maniac in the Oval Office. And I am damned tired of people like you telling me that Obama has fixed the damned economy.

As he said, if he hasn't fixed the economy in three years then he will be a one term president. I hope to hell that was true even though Romney is likely to be just as bad.

Yeah, I have issues alright.

Immie

Hmph! McCain was just as bad as Obama.

Consider the fact that everyone else would have been as bad as McCain or Obama as well.

I'm dying here. I can't afford to wait for things to turn around. It is obvious that under President Obama that is not going to change. His policies have killed jobs. Unfortunately, Romney doesn't offer much more hope.

You’re going to have to wait for things to turn around.

There’s nothing Obama or McCain or Hillary or Romney or anyone else could have done, can do, or will do.

But, quite frankly, I am frigging sick and tired of people telling me everything is perfect in the land of America thanks to the maniac who currently holds the Oval Office.

Nonsense. Obama is no ‘maniac.’

As for people telling you everything’s OK, consider the source rather than blaming Obama.

I have never appreciated being lied to. Things sure the hell are not perfect in the land of America despite what Obama, his media hounds or LL want us to believe.

This must be a perception issue on your part, as I’m aware of no one who has stated things are ‘perfect’ in America, including the president.

Otherwise, this is truly a bizarre phenomenon, unique to the American people, the propensity to invest so much into a single person - the President of the United States – and to praise him for good fortune he can take no credit for or damn him for misfortune which is clearly not his fault.

America is on the Titanic and we have a gay president who's only concern is his support for men having sex with men, women dating women, and Juila,,,,,what has this nation come to?

To be fair, America is on the Titanic and we are looking to the Captain for help when we should be getting off our @$$ and helping ourselves and our fellow shipmates.

And with FEW LIFEBOATS to get into because the CAPTAIN has scuttled them all...

First, good post and thank you I do appreciate it.

Second, he is a maniac.

Third, he's one of those telling me everything is perfect. I am considering the source.

Fourth, while I agree with you that the recession was not his fault and that there is and was little he could have done about it, his anti-business policies i.e. Obamacare, and rhetoric have very definitely affected the job market.

Rep coming your way for the way you put that despite the fact that I don't fully agree with you.

Can we shelve the Anti-Gay Marriage debate until after the election? I don't just mean here, I mean in real life and in the media.

What we are doing is falling into a trap set by the progs. ANYTHING that can keep the discussion away from obama and on us.

Fighting over this is silly. There are way more important things to discuss than gay marriage, no matter how you feel about it, it will be a useless issue unless we can get rid of obama. Who cares if gays can or can't get married if obama is re-elected because there won't be anything left of our republic. Who wants to live in a socialistic America where Gays cannot get married?

We need to keep the focus on obama and his failed presidency, so far he's been successful in distracting everyone with one pointless issue after another.

Shelve it?

I'll stir the fucking pot.

ALL marriages should be called civil unions and nothing more, until & unless your particular civil union happens to be sanctioned by your own house of worship. Then, if you wish to, you and your co-religion faithful can call yourselves "married." But the state and the church/synagogue/temple/mosque ought to have no connection in this regard. So, as far as the state is concerned, it should ALL be JUST civil unions. And the only reason the state need be involved is to whatever extent it involves a contract or other legal matters that require governmental or judicial actions.

My plan is simple. If everyone (in the eyes of the state) is treated equally (i.e., all couples are involved in civil unions only), then there is no no state bigotry or inequality implicated. And if your church doesn't recognize a gay marriage, that's similarly no concern of the state. But even if you have problems with your house of worship, you still get treated under the law like the folks the church or temple labels as being "married."

Problem fixed.

Get the STATE out of "marriage."

I like the idea.
I don't have a problem with civil unions either.
As I understand it however, the NC State Amendment bans civil unions as well???

Immie. You are not accurate in your assessment. The man has not enacted job-killing policies. Why are you unable to accept the facts?

I'm sorry you lost your job. If you were told that it is because of Obamacare, you were lied to.

So WHY do Progressives as OBAMA think Gubmint should be INVOLVED?

And WHY has he changed his stance more than once in his "Christain Teachings"?

I agree. There are serious issues here, this is NOT one of them.

FAR from a serious issue. The left is playing the populus AWAY from the real issues...as Obama needs them to...

THIS ALL is scripted and played well...

Immie. You are not accurate in your assessment. The man has not enacted job-killing policies. Why are you unable to accept the facts?

I'm sorry you lost your job. If you were told that it is because of Obamacare, you were lied to.

I can't believe I would even consider thanking you for this post. ;)

I was not told it was because of Obamacare. I was told it was because of the economy (and being the controller of the small business I was in, I knew what the problems were. I fought for and saved my job for four years) and the policies of our President were the issue with the economy then (01/10) as they are now. He's killing small businesses! Damnit! And I have always worked for small business.

Obamacare is one of the policies that are hurting small businesses. We don't know what to expect when 2014 hits. We... small businesses are uncertain what exactly it is going to cost us, because we still don't know what the f**k is in it.

I'm now dealing with the fact that I am an aging accountant, I turn 51 in less than two weeks. I am either over-qualified or under-qualified for the vast majority of jobs. Those jobs that fit me to a "T", I find out that my resume was one of at least 500 similar resumes. I can't stand up for two minutes without doubling over in pain so even a frigging retail job (yes, I would gladly work for Mickey D's today) is out of the damned question and I am sorry to say, I am one of those who is facing foreclosure!

Yes... I do have issues! And, I'm pissed off that the President is making things worse! Nothing you say will change my feelings on that... except for maybe, "You're hired".

I do blame the President for his anti-corporate policies. Nothing you say is going to change that. Liberals are spreading their hatred for "corporatism" to limits that have affected the lower middle class. I am no fan of overpaid CEO's either, but I much prefer them to the people of both parties that have fought so hard to divide this nation. And, yes, I know those bastard CEO's are pulling the strings of the bastards in Washington, but I'm pissed off at the bastards in Washington, because they let it happen!

I think I'm ranting... thanks for the chance to rave a little. But know this, it is you who are wrong when you claim that he has not enacted job killing policies.

Immie

Listen here, nutters. Barack Obama is more than happy to talk about the economy. He'll be doing that on a regular basis, in fact.

He is fond of discussing the 26 months of private sector job growth. He likes to discuss the fact that GOP policies on the state level have hindered progress by killing public sector jobs. He won't skip an opportunity to discuss the flourishing automobile industry and he'll just chuckle at your guy as he tries to take credit for it. Our President will happily engage in a discussion about how production is up, exports are up, unemployment is on a downward trend and.........he might even talk about how we are producing more oil than we used to.

You nutters make gay marriage an issue..............by insisting that it is a fucking issue..........in every fucking election.
You ride it like a cheap whore in the hopes that you'll get some yahoos to put down their Bud Light and vote.

It IS the economy. And our guy is better at running it than you thought. So...........YOU don't REALLY want to discuss it. How about admitting that.

Wow... and who called me a liar?

You have no shame do you?

Immie. You are not accurate in your assessment. The man has not enacted job-killing policies. Why are you unable to accept the facts?

Tell that to the coal industry :doubt:

Since they are the ones constantly bringing this up as an issue, they have only themselves to blame for the inevitible blowback.

Problem is for them, when they address economics, the nations in Europe that embraced the austerity solutions of the conservative right, are doing far worse than we are in recovering from this economic debacle. And the people of Europe are beginning to look at our success, as weak kneed as it is, and saying that is the direction that they need to go in. France and Finland are examples of this.

States write legislation pertaining to marriage, it’s contract law. It’s also the responsibility of states’ courts to ensure the contract of marriage is executed in accordance with those laws.

Government can’t be ‘removed’ from marriage, the latter wouldn’t exist without the former.

It has nothing to do with ‘progressives’ or Obama or anything else; for centuries governments have been responsible for composing marriage law.
