A More Perfect Union

While I respect peoples choice of Barack Obama for president, IMHO it is a little premature to make the comparision between Barack Obama and the likes of Lincoln, JFK, Reagan, Washington, and whomever else you wish to compare him too. While he has a great ability to inspire many with his articulate speech , speech alone does not make a great leader, nor does the ability to get people to vote. Many people some good, some very evil have had those very same qualities. So to begin to place Barack Obama who so far has just over a year of Federal public service under his belt (the rest spent running for president ), is a bit premature.

You're fucking disgusting. To compare Obama to someone responsible for the death of over 10 million people... you should be banned from this forum for doing such a disgusting thing. If anyone, ANYONE in the past 8 years should be compared to Hitler, someone whose own orders has caused the deaths of millions of people, it should be Bush.

I am not implying that he would be better or worse then any of the presidents you listed. I was simply stating how speech and words can be used to inspire a country. Great leaders need to bring opposing people together, communist, socialist, terrorist, and the other names Obama has been called are used to divide and inject fear.

David. You and I do not agree. You see Obama as someone who just arose from the ashes and will make everything wrong, right again.

I see him as just another puppet master for those really running the show.

Would you have been as upset if I had Bushes face there? (though Bush gives really bad speeches)....

I think you might have clapped had I put McCain's face there (though McCain gives even worse speeches).

But I put your hero there. Well, he's not my hero.

and as far as I can see......MY belief is that we are all sheep to the slaughter...and though you stand in line willingly. I don't.

Great speeches can also be used to fool a country and it's countrymen.

bk, I submit that there is a big difference between inspiring a country and inspiring the people that vote for you. While many people I agree are inspired by the words of Barack Obama the verdict is still out on if he can inspire the very same people who did not vote for him the same way if he should prevail. I submit that the test of Barack Obama will be to get those people who oppose him to be inspired the same way. I have my doubts at this point as many of the disagreements with Barack Obama seem to be IMO on fundamental ideals as to what this nation is about. A very hard hill to climb.

His Speeches are Aimed at the World & U. S. Will Pay for it!!! Redistributing the Wealth Means Take from the Rich (WHITE) & GIVE to the (BLACK)!

I Wonder what he will do with OPRA???

Whites make up 74% of the population, and Obama's only raising taxes for the top 2% of America.

Blacks only make up 10% of the population, and Obama's making tax cuts for 95% of the country.

It sure sounds lke he's redistributing the wealth solely to help black people, doesn't it?

I think he already proved it, the democrat primaries were brutal and Clinton supporters were pissed at Obama and wanted revenge. He has now won the majority of Clinton supporters and they will vote for him on nov.4th. On another point how did he recieve all the support and votes he has now? He wasnt born with a silver spoon in his mouth, nor does he come from a strong political family. He inspired everyone to get involved and exericise their right to vote. He displayed for the world, that the power of our country is within the people. Of course there will be the rush limbaughs who will never support him. But those who remain open minded and give him the chance, may be persuaded. That being said, you are right we have to wait and see.

One can point out the high profile republicans and conservatives who have backed Obama as proof of his ability to unite opposing partys and views.

Joel Haugen, a Republican fighting a tough congressional race against the Democrats in Oregon, has fallen out with his party. The reason: his surprise endorsement of Barack Obama for the presidency.

"I believe in putting nation before party and my first priority is following my conscience with regard to what is best for America," Haugen said in a statement issued by his office today. "I have a huge amount of respect for John McCain, but I believe that he has more of a cold war mentality."

. The latest high-profile desertions include Scott McClellan, George Bush's former press secretary, who endorses Obama in a taped CNN programme to be broadcast this weekend, and William Weld, the Republican governor of Massachusetts from 1991 to 1997.

Weld, in a statement released today ahead of a press conference in New Hampshire, described Obama as "a once-in-a-lifetime candidate".

Last weekend, Bush's former secretary of state, Colin Powell, Obama's biggest Republican catch so far, publicly backed the Democratic candidate.

Arne Carlson, the Republican governor of Minnesota from 1991 to 1999, who wrote in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune yesterday: "The choice of governor Sarah Palin as a running mate, and the resultant shallow campaign based on fear and suspicion, looks frighteningly similar to the politics of Karl Rove [Bush's campaign strategist]."

He described Obama as having "the potential to become a truly great president".

The founders of Republicans for Obama include a former Iowa congressman, Jim Leach; a former Rhode Island senator, Lincoln Chafee, and a former Bush fund-raiser, Rita Hauser.

Another defector this week is Ken Adelman, a foreign policy adviser to Ronald Reagan, who told the New Yorker he would endorse Obama because of McCain's temperament, describing as weird his behaviour in response when the economic meltdown began.

Bruce Bartlett
Domestic policy advisor to President Reagan

Delbert Spurlock
Assistant Secretary of the Army under President Reagan

While there have been some Republicans that have supported Barack Obama that is not an indication of his ability to reach out to those that did not support him as I stated in my post. In fact bk if you look at Barack Obama's voting record in the Senate as well the IL. state house one can make an argument that his record runs contrary to reaching out to those that don't support him. Your assertion that somehow those that do not vote for Barack Obama are somehow these Rush Limbaugh supporting fringe and it realy doesn't matter if he reaches out to them is painting all those that will not vote for Obama with a very broad Brush.

A solid party loyalist
Obama’s roll call votes in 2005, 2006 and 2007 have been analyzed by the non-partisan journal Congressional Quarterly which found him to be a Democratic Party loyalist.

CQ didn't use every single roll call vote to make this determination, instead it analyzed votes where a majority of Democratic senators opposed a majority of Republican senators.

In 2007, Obama voted with his fellow Democrats 97 percent of the time. In 2006, his score was 96, and in 2005, he again netted a 97 percent rating.

What Obama's Senate votes reveal - Barack Obama News

While the endorsements of some Republicans shows that they as individuals support him , it is hardly a ringing vindication of his ability to reach across the isle to those that do not support him.

who are these millions you claim.....& if you say Iraqis, bear in mind, those orders delivered them from a mass murderer who willingly used WMD on his own people.....

That was not the point I was trying to make, I was saying their will be a minority of the rush limbaughs who have a completely closed mindset and not open to anything pro obama. In those cases there is nothing he can do to gain their support. I believe the majority of McCain supporters are open minded and after elected will give him his fair shake to prove himself.

Funny it was hitler who used fear and divisive tactics to win his support. Sounds like the other canidate to me.

"[The Jews'] ultimate goal is the denaturalization, the promiscuous bastardization of other peoples, the lowering of the racial level of the highest peoples as well as the domination of his racial mishmash through the extirpation of the volkish intelligentsia and its replacement by the members of his own people,"

Not to me. When you tell people that their country is failing and it's the fault of the other party, when you tell people that people are dying, and it's the fault of the other party, when you tell people you will punish the rich in order to provide programs to cater to the "poorest of the poor"....

that sounds more like Hitler than anything I've heard McCain say.

Have you ever listened to Rush? Or do you just blindly repreat what Randi Rhodes tells you to?
