Mickelson finishes off 5th Pebble Beach win

While Mr. Phil has a personality that doesn't please everyone, we should appreciate the fact that he is the "Lou Gehrig" of golf, playing second fiddle to The GOAT for most of his career, but demonstrating yet again at Pebble Beach that he is a most formidable talent at age 47.

His short iron play is the Best Ever, and with irons generally, there has never been anyone better. At Pebble Beach, where placement of shots is critical on almost every shot, he demonstrated his mastery by putting shot after shot (other than a few errant drives) right where it needed to be.

I'm sure the folks managing the "Champions" tour are salivating, waiting for Phil's 50th BD, and he alone will drive up attendance and prize money significantly, depending only on how many events he chooses to play.

Enjoy him while you can. He is a golf treasure.

I believe he had a putting green and bunkers in his backyard as a kid, and used to spend hours just fooling around with these vital short shots. Fun to watch.
