And the deficit is dropping, actually, and Saddam Hussein did not have Weapons of Mass Destruction, and the moon landing was real, and FEMA is not building concentration camps, and UN Election Observers are not taking over Texas, and moderate reforms on the regulations in the insurance industry in this country are not the same thing as Communism. And if the Republican Party and the Conservative Movement and the Conservative Media are stuck in a vacuum-sealed, door-locked spin cycle of telling each other what makes them feel good, and denying the factual, lived truth of the world, then we are all deprived as a nation of the constructive debate between competing, feasible ideas about real problems. Last night, the Republicans got shellacked. And they had no idea it was coming. And we saw them in real, humiliating time, not believe it even as it was happening to them. And unless they are going to secede, they are going to have to pop the factual bubble they have been so happy living inside if they do not want to get shellacked again. Republicans tried to appease hispanics by granting amnesty to over 3 million illegal immigrants in 1986. A lot of good that did, because in 1988, George HW Bush only got 30% of the hispanic vote. What needs to be done is for Republicans to tell Democrats to take their advice and shove it. Republicans need to start conservative talk radio in spanish. They need to get their message out in spanish. Listening to Democrats...the enemy...is beyond stupid.

They only kept the House because of severe gerrymandering of congressional districts. Nationally, the Democrats won more votes in the House than Republicans did, and under the old map they would've gained something like another dozen or 15 seats on top of the 7 or 8 they won this time.

The shellacking didn't look as bad in the House this time, but in terms of the vote, it certainly was, and so it was too in the Senate, as Republicans have lost 5 seats in the last couple elections because of the total fucking retards and other witches they put up as candidates.

I agree with Rachel. I hope the Republican party shapes up because we really do need two parties that are serious about solving big problems. We can have our disagreements with Democrats, but they're a party that seriously wants to pass a meaningful deficit reduction plan that balances revenue increases along with spending cuts.

It's time for serious Republicans to actually join them and to work something out. They've done so in the past, just not in the last couple or so years as the Tea Party got elected and then decided to make a point instead of actually helping to govern our country.

If this election wasn't a slap in the face to Republicans (Romney bragged about his ground game but got less votes than McCain with his terrible ground game) than the next two cycles will be if they think they can just oppose every single thing that the President has been elected to do on our behalf.
