Marc Rich is the one I remember. He was a commodities trader who traded with Iran, against the law, and fled to Zug Switzerland where he resided until his wife made big contributions to the Democratic Party and submitted a request for a pardon.

Slick Willie later said he regretted pardoning Rich.

Kinda makes you wonder how that process works. Do you really think Clinton, or any President, sits down and actually thinks about any one of those? Or do they just put a stamp of approval on it or something?

Bush's pardon of Libby was clearly one that he intended himself, but when it adds up to a couple hundred people who have no legitimate reason to be pardoned, it makes you wonder.

Why is it everytime Bush does something immoral, unlawful or illegal that the people who support Bush find a reason to bring up Clinton? It is a given that Clinton is a loser just like Bush and his affair with Monica Lewinsky and lying about it is proof of that but the obession with Bill Clinton is pathetic. So, it seems to me that those of you who continue to bring up Clinton have no life.

Clinton is not the President and he is not the one who commutted Libby's sentence. This is the issue at hand, and not the immoral, unlawful and illegal actions of a jackass like Clinton. :eusa_boohoo:

it wasn't his wife, it was his EXWIFE.

Scooter Libby was marc rich's lawyer who worked very hard to get him the pardon!!!

First off, there is nothing illegal, immoral, or unlawful about pardoning someone who never should have been on trial to begin with.

Second, in case you haven't noticed, there is a certain person running for president named Clinton who had a snotty remark to make about President Bush's decision involving Libby. A certain other person named Clinton was standing a few feet away. It's the Clinton's that put themselves into the conversation.

PARDONS GRANTED BY PRESIDENT CLINTON

snip

I sincerely hope you didn't go to all this trouble to attempt to draw a parallel to scooter libby.

Did you happen to look at the dates of most of the convictions you listed. They date back to the 1970s and 1980s.

Virtually all of the people Clinton pardoned, had served all or most of their prison time or had otherwise already paid their debt to society. The reason for the pardons was to reinstate the employment rights and voting rights. Not to let them entirely skip out on their prison sentence

In contrast, Libby won't serve a day in jail.

So, you attempted to compare apples to oranges here.

As for Marc Rich - anyone who is a libby-defender can STFU. Libby was Marc Rich's attorney, and Libby recommended a pardon for Rich.

;)

I like the fact that you included the word ย“Virtuallyย”. Did one of these people get away ย“scott freeย”? Your comment would have carried more weight if you could omit the word ย“Virtuallyย”.

In contrast, Libby won't serve a day in jail.

Likewise, Libby will be paying his debt to society. Please correct me if I am wrong but it is my understanding that Libby still has a 2-year probation and a fine of over $200000.

So, you attempted to compare apples to oranges here.

I think of it more as ย“bean countingย”. The examples are close enough. Libby will pay his dues as did many people that Clinton pardoned.

As for Marc Rich - anyone who is a libby-defender can STFU. Libby was Marc Rich's attorney, and Libby recommended a pardon for Rich.

It makes no difference to me who recommended what to whom. Someone could recommend that I jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. The bottom line is that Clinton pardoned him.

Now there's a convincing argument that bush did the right thing, in commuting libby's sentence:

"But, Clinton did it too!"

So much for returning honor and integrity to the white house. Isn't that why Bush-fans said we should elect him in 2000?

The fact remains, that someone went out of their way to provide us this list. But, upon closer inspection, it appears that virtually of these people pardoned served their jail sentences prior to being pardoned. Hello? Susan McDougal?

Libby won't serve one day in prison, thanks to bush.

I'm actually suprised that law and order republicans are cheering the fact that a man convicted of three felonies, and sentenced by a republican judge, is having his prison sentence completely commuted

Yes, Clinton doled out some 420 or so pardons during his presidency, a good portion during his last few days in office. Now of course the President does Constitutionally have the power, but Clinton used it in what I consider the most criminal act of his presidency. Quite a number of those last days pardons need to be investigated for ties and donations to the Democratic Party and the Clinton reelection campaign.

George Bush Sr handed out some 70 odd pardons during his 4 years.

Ronald Reagan, however, managed in 8 years to hand out some 405 or so pardons, proportionally many more than Bubba. Unfortunately, my knowledge of the Reagan pardons isn't up to snuff so to speak, so I won't comment except to say that it is the fate of those with power to abuse it.

Now this brief history of Presidential pardonings clearly indicates that our Dear Leaders Reagan and Clinton each earned themselves some sort of medal. At the end of the day, however, 1st prize goes to the man you'd most expect: Richard M. Nixon cleared the gate with over 900 pardons by the end of his presidency. Then of course we have to give Gerald Ford an honorable mention for handing out the world's most famous pardoning to his boss.

im glad to know that atleast he regretted it. referring to rich.

I bring up clinton too show, that bush is not the only president to make questionable pardons, and I think forgetting our history, not just clinton, but the last 30 years, is dangerous, because look at iraq, for god sakes, we are making the same mistakes their, as we did in vietnam, because we dont take an open, unbiased, nonpartisan look, at all the mistakes both corrupt parties have made. Its as if this board is more about, putting someone else down, to score political points for yourself, then having real discussion. This is not all people on this board, but it happens too often.

However, I appreciate your honesty...

:eusa_boohoo:

my point was too show, that bush is not the only president to give pardons, and with all due respect, i dont think libby should have ever been on trial. I have real issues with bush, but im not just going to say bush stupid, bush bad, bush evil. And some people on this board, wont get past that.

Libby was Marc Rich's attorney, and Libby recommended a pardon for Rich.

;)

My point was not bush is great, and clinton was dousche, more of just, can we stick to the issues?. After all we waste enough time, with, your party is bad, really, well yours is worse, rather then trying to talk about real issues, try and solve them, or atleast disagree without being disagreeable.

I like the fact that you included the word ย“Virtuallyย”. Did one of these people get away ย“scott freeย”? Your comment would have carried more weight if you could omit the word ย“Virtuallyย”.

Likewise, Libby will be paying his debt to society. Please correct me if I am wrong but it is my understanding that Libby still has a 2-year probation and a fine of over $200000.

I think of it more as ย“bean countingย”. The examples are close enough. Libby will pay his dues as did many people that Clinton pardoned.

It makes no difference to me who recommended what to whom. Someone could recommend that I jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. The bottom line is that Clinton pardoned him.

I dont agree with libby being convicted of anything, and the point is bush is not the only president to make pardons, this goes back hundreds of years, but i put clinton on there for a reason, on this board, some people bash bush, without bashing the bad things clinton or democrats do it. And if you cant criticize your side, you shouldnt criticize others. And i have my problems , as ive said many times with my party and bush.

I'm actually suprised that law and order republicans are cheering the fact that a man convicted of three felonies, and sentenced by a republican judge, is having his prison sentence completely commuted

it wasn't his wife, it was his EXWIFE.

Scooter Libby was marc rich's lawyer who worked very hard to get him the pardon!!!

what difference does that make?

the fact is Bill sold Mark Rich a pardon for cash - and whatever else he could get from his wife
