A Liberal Fairy Tale

Great, so then people can buy birth control to ward off an unwanted pregnancy. i don't see how that adds up to a federal mandate to cover the pill. Or are you just showing me how gubmint is the answer to all problems?

Good question

Just how should the government address the unacceptable number of abortions in this country
Liberals say we need to increase access to birth control
Conservatives say we need to publicly shame women who seek abortions

"unacceptable" is arbitrarily decided. That said, the govt. should not address it. Their job is to uphold constitutional laws, and keep sane monetary policy (both of which they fucking fail miserably at), not decide anything else about how the people conduct their lives. Whether that be in the bedroom, in the doctors office, in our employment agreements or otherwise. GET OUT! Do your fucking sworn oath. nothing more.

OH Christ

I'm trying to have a logical discussion with a Libertarian

In other words, you can not defend the position you believe in. Based on your "logic", you will turn to the government to "address" any item regarding our lives. Which is how we've gotten in this whole mess in the first place.

Perhaps the next thing that government officials can decide for us regarding our lives is how much air we are allowed to breath each day. I mean, how are we going to address this unacceptable level of hot air coming from progressives?

Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican .

Monday, 10 October 2011 16:23

.

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican’s would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, “We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have”.

Right, the constitution is just an outdated piece of paper. We need gubmint to save us!!! Save us, gubmint!! Save us from ourselves ane bring us salvation!

Progressives are fucking weak sauce when it comes to defending their positions. If you can't answer using any reality, logic or reason, just disregard your opponent and resort to fallacies, like bringing up the 18th century as if it is relevant. It is your brand of confusion that will lead to the economic destruction of this nation and all of the individual liberties that made this nation great. Thanks for being a confused rainbow riding simpleton.

And I'm a classical liberal, like the guys who wrote the constitution. libertarian works for me though. The differences are few.

Progressive liberals of today simply do not understand economics. To them, money grows on trees, govt. is the answer to all of our problems and there is a utopia waiting for us all at the end of the their tunnel visioned ideology. Well, ok, so this whole ideology happens to have failed miserably at every turn in histories past. BUT, WE CAN DO IT THIS TIME!!!!! WE CAN MAKE THE DREAM COME TRUE!!!

Hope and Change, and all that.

The only reason it doesn't work is because most of us have free will. We've enjoyed freedom and liberty our whole lives and that is why we were the greatest country on earth. That is why socialism has been violently rejected time and time again in this country.

Enter Mr. Hope and Change. Obama dusted off his copies of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals and the Cloward-Piven strategy. The hope and change theme is peppered throughout Alinsky's book, by the way. Yea, socialism will work for Obama because he is using the same old tried and true method of sneaking it in quietly and he's smarter than all those before him.

The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results each time. It's time to stop the insanity.

All health insurance provides "free stuff" that others have to pay for

No. The people who buy health insurance pay for their health insurance. It is not free.

This woman wants free birth control. She does not want to contribute to the cost of it. Period.

If birth control was added to your health insurance, the cost of your health insurance would go up by several hundred dollars a year, and the cost of health care would rise by tens of billions of dollars for the country each year. For something that is completely medically unnecessary.

But she is not okay with sharing the cost of her pill. She does not want to pay for it. At all. She wants YOU to pay for it.

You don't seem to get that for every new line item added to your coverage, the cost of your coverage goes up.

You are just another example of the liberal mindset that thinks things you want are free.

So who would pay for her pills? The principals here seem to be the woman and her medical provider. If the provider suddenly has to start providing her with free pills, it will have to pay for them.

So now you want doctors to pay for her pill out of the goodness of their hearts? And where does this forced generosity stop if we are now providing things which are not medically necessary for free?

Presumably it will do so by some combination of reducing corporate profits and raising its rates, so that the costs fall on its shareholders and its customers.

Ahhhhhh. Those evil corporate profits are standing between this woman and her free pill! I see. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Indeed!

And she was quite clear she wanted the pill for free. She does not want the cost to fall on her, the customer.

Ideally, I would like insurance companies to cover contraceptives out of enlightened self interest. Failing that, a legal mandate is acceptable.

Of course you would. Force everyone to pay for her pill at gunpoint.

[I don't understand your reference to doctors.

That's convenient. You said "medical provider".

When there is legislation you don't like, your kind screams about government coming between a woman and her doctor.

But now you are DEMANDING the government come between a woman and her doctor and pay for her contraception!

Precisely.

Liberals believe in taking emotional hostages. "Roll out the cancer lady!" "Gimme the pill for free or I will abort this baby!"

I'm not sure what you think is convenient or why. By "medical provider" I meant an insurance company or something similar. I would have thought that it would be clear from context (ie, referring to the medical provider as "it") that I wasn't referring to a doctor.

I don't scream, and I don't know what you think my kind is. If you're referring to abortion legislation, I believe I (unlike some others) have always framed the issue as a right of a woman seeking an abortion, not a right of a doctor to provide it.

I'm not demanding anything. I'm saying that I support something. Also, as far as I can tell neither of us has called for the government to pay for contraception in this thread; we are discussing a federal mandate on private medical plans.

I still don't understand why you are framing this issue as burdening doctors. As far as I can tell the opposition comes from insurance companies and religious and conservative groups. The AMA seems to neutral to supportive of the measure.

All assumptions. You want to pretend that liberals are all good and others are all bad.

It's a fact that a great many able bodied people are takers. It's a fact that government can't give them anything until they take it from others.

It's a fact that every day they are asking for more. When will it be enough? I believe it won't be enough till we are all equally miserable.

It's been a while....so let me ask again.

HOW MANY?????

That is a lie

Just like they cover insulin or blood pressure medication

The roads are free?

Doubtful.

This is yet another example of how badly CONZ miss the mark.

He uses someone saying the "roads are free" as "proof" that liberals think someone else pays for everything.

Well, most people don't think about paying for using roads unless it's a toll road. How often do you think about how an elevator works when you get in one?

I don't think people think the roads are "free" merely that they don't have to PAY as a condition of their immediate use.

Now, here's a much more interesting question.
Why should I have to pay the taxes for businesses that USE the public roads.

Now, given that ONLY PEOPLE pay taxes (businesses pass along their taxes as a cost of doing business), we see that business is getting a free ride on everyone else's backs.

Let's say I want to go to the store to buy a loaf of bread.

Now, in order for that loaf to get to the store, the farmer, the wheat transporter, the miller, the bakery and the grocery store ALL include the taxes of all those people and industries who made and used public infrastructure to deliver their goods and services.

Now why should I have to pay the taxes for the company who makes a PROFIT using public roads ?
Business gets to use our public transportation at NO COST to their profits. Yet, I don't hear conservatives complaining about paying someone else way.

THIS is why high top tax rates on high income earners is NECESSARY. It allows the PROFITS made at the expense of ordinary taxpayers to be "redistributed" back to the people who paid for the roads in the first place.

Now why should I have to pay the taxes for the company who makes a PROFIT using public roads ?

Truckers pay all kinds of taxes to use the roads.

This is yet another example of how badly LIBZ miss the mark.
