Obama to nominate Hagel for Defense, Brennan for CIA | The Ticket - Yahoo! News

President Barack Obama on Monday will formally nominate Republican former Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska to be defense secretary and top White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan to be CIA director. The announcement, expected at the White House at 1:05 p.m., is Obama's latest move to round out his second-term national security team following his nomination of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry to succeed Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

Hagel, who earned two Purple Hearts in Vietnam and still carries shrapnel in his chest, would be the first former enlisted soldier to head the Pentagon. But his expected nomination has drawn fire from a handful of Republican senators, who point to his votes against sanctions on Iran and complaints about the "Jewish lobby" for Israel.

Jos, et al,

I have to chuckle.

Oh shit, an America-firster, what now?
(COMMENT)

Israel's Lobby is as strong as ever. The President could appoint anyone into those three positions and it wouldn't make any difference. Contributions, votes and image are the things that count in Congress. And Congress decides on the aid ($$$) packages.

Most Respectfully,
R

Tx...for your clear and honest imput...AIPAC indeed controls American Foreign Policy in the ME for Israel's benefit...I think this is the first crack in a sick system that puts a foreign powers intrests over our-own

Campaign finance reform is sorley needed...100 million dollar contributions from a casino owner for his Israeli wife...the system is sick.

Again tx...there are 6 Roccos in my extended family, and everone of them is brutaly honest. Must be the name.LOL

et al,

I just appreciate "Flash Mobs" in general; the choreography and style. They are a tribute to the imagination of man.

And the boldness in which they do it! Damn if it doesn't make me smile every time I see one. They could be promoting rat turds on cornflakes and I would still enjoy them.

"Brennan's nomination to succeed retired Gen. David Petraeus—who left the CIA in November after admitting to an extramarital affair with his biographer—is not expected to face serious opposition.

"The meatiest parts of his confirmation hearings will likely take place behind closed doors, such as potentially sharp questions from liberal senators over Obama's controversial program of assassinating suspected extremists with drone strikes.

"Those attacks are deeply unpopular overseas, where they have been blamed for civilian casualties and tarred as violations of national sovereignty. But criticisms will likely focus more on the president's policies than on Brennan's general qualifications for the job."

Brennan was one of the strongest supporters of enhanced interrogation techniques during the reign of Bush and Cheney. By nominating Brennan to head the CIA, Obama proves once again how little human rights matter in his administration.
