A Black Farmer Blows the Whistle on Pigford

No I wouldn't call it socialism since we subsidize farmers and we reap the beneifts of those subsidies. However, not all social programs are neccesarily bad, but many are abused. Would you rather subsidize farms are pay more for food? Either way, you pay.

I would rather pay more for my own food as opposed to paying the government to subsidize huge corporate farm conglomerates who have been gaming the system for years.

I believe most subsidies goes to family farms. Those with an average of 300 acres.

And quite honestly, I don't give a fuck what you'd rather do.

Obviously, you don't give a fuck about the truth either.....go back to listening for more talking points.

Between 2001 and 2006, at least $1.3 billion was paid to landowners who had planted nothing since 2000, The Post found. Among the beneficiaries were homeowners in new developments whose backyards used to be rice fields.

Obama's attack on direct payments, a largely restriction-free subsidy system that pays out to farmers regardless of what crop is grown, is not altogether surprising. In November, the incoming president cited a Government Accountability Office report that said from 2003 to 2006, "millionaire farmers" got $49 million in farm subsidies despite earning more than the $2.5 million cutoff in annual income.

I know a LOT of 300 acre farmers who would love to know what crop YOUR farmers are growing to make $2.5M....

And whose talking points are you alleging I listen to?

Same here. All subs and entitlments need to be cut down or cut off. The less the government owes the stronger our dollar is.

If we are subsidizing the farmers for food that we "need"...I put quotes around need because we can import everything that we grow here, why didn't we subsidize our textile industry before the "job creators" shipped all of those jobs overseas? Why didn't we subsidize our steel industry before the "job creators" shipped most of those jobs overseas? Why didn't we subsidize...oh, you get my point, now answer the question, please.

Couldn't tell you. There are fewer farmers than people that can work in factories.

It just got more profitable to move jobs out and have migrants come in and work a type of piece rate.

So, are you agreeing that these subsidies are a form of socialism, but it is OK because we "need" food?

We grow enough grapes in cali in one season to feed everyone on the planet 4 full meals.

We grow so much that farmers are paid not to grow.

We grow so much that food replaced gold, as the basis for our money.

The last people that should get workfare is farmers. B.c if they are hungry, well, they live on a farm, I think they can find some food.

No one has told me anything, that's what I believe from experience living in a farming community my entire life. Unlike you, I don't need to be told what to think or say.

Does anybody else find PIGFORD to be the most poetically named scandal EVAH?

Most of the subsidies do not go to farmers. That only happened when Jimmy Carter did the grain embargo & farmers no longer had foreign markets for food. This also caused foreigners to shop in Brazil for food wiping out the Rain Forest. The USA is no longer trusted to be the worlds bread basket. Brazil now permanently competes against the USA farmer keeping it mostly unprofitable.

Ethanol subsidies go to Big Oil in the form of blender credit. This pays the fuel blender & gas stations to make ethanol available at the pump.
