I have 200 acres in Arkansas and have raised hogs.
Pigford is the biggest rip-off this country has ever known, and there are lots of people in positions of power that know it. Politicians are using it to buy votes. Trial lawyers are using it to get rich.

I personally know of people who have no connection to farming at all who got Pigford checks. People with potted plants in their apartments claimed to be farmers and got paid. I saw an instance where eight Pigford checks went to one house. There are drug addicts and pushers who have received payments who have never farmed a day in their life.

There was discrimination at the US Department of Agriculture. It needed to be dealt with. I was suing the USDA before Timothy Pigford even filed suit. I wrote to attorney Al Pires, who eventually filed a class action lawsuit against the USDA, but he saw that there wasn’t going to be a huge amount of money for him. So he passed. What he did find was a way to work a scam from inside the Star City, Arkansas USDA office by paying a USDA employee to process claimants. This employee would take from $5,000 to $25,000 for each successful Pigford claim. Pires was in this totally for the money. He’s made far more money than any black farmer.

Congress needs to investigate Pigford immediately. I believe that probably 80 to 90% of Pigford claims are fraudulent. I know that its at least 300 cases in Arkansas alone. By investigating this fraud we are opening up a can of worms. But it needs to be done. Justice demands it.

A Black Farmer Blows the Whistle on the Black Farmer Settlement - Big Government

It's pretty obvious Pigford is being used not to help black farmers, but as "reparations" as liberals have wanted.

As usual with liberals, instead of really trying to help someone, they are pushing a scam, and the American taxpayer, as usual, gets the shaft.

When farmers, who are the ones who are supposed to benefit, can see this is scam, it becomes pretty obvious.

He's right, this needs to be investigated as soon as the new Congress is seated.

Taking a long hard look at ALL farm subsidies seems like a good idea.

MOST of that money goes to fortune 500 AGRI-Corporations, of course, so don't count on us EVER solving that mess

SECOND ARTICLE on the page.

Back in 1997, lawyers brought a class-action suit, Pigford v. Glickman, against the USDA on behalf of African American farmers who allegedly were discriminated against because of their race when they tried to secure federally-backed farm loans or benefit payments.

On January 5, 1999, a federal court ruled in Pigford that the following group was qualified to apply for federal compensation for discrimination by USDA: “All African American farmers who (1) farmed, or attempted to farm, between January 1, 1981 and December 31, 1996; (2) applied to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) during that time period for participation in a federal farm credit or benefit program and who believed that they were discriminated against on the basis of race in USDA’s response to that application; and (3) filed a discrimination complaint on or before July 1, 1997, regarding USDA’s treatment of such farm credit or benefit application.”

Extreme fraud. A lot of these checks aren't even going to farmers.

It's "reparations' under another name, AND a vote buying scheme.

Liberals are never honest about what they are doing. Like global warming, they are always pulling a scam.

"backdoor welfare" is how someone put it yesterday. But in my world it's fraud and corruption.

We need to stop federally backing farmers. It's a waste of everyone else money.

Where else do you pay someone to build or grow a product, 'then' buy it from them on top of it?

As far as the story goes, that could just be sour grapes. For a pig farmer, he sure knows a lot about drug dealers and hi neighbors business.

You dumbshit. Farm subsidies is EXACTLY "out and out bald face fraud".....I so wish their was an IQ test people had to pass before they could post here. Showing how uneducated you are and how stupid you look, obviously is not enough of a deterrent for you.

Faux outrage, is fun, TPS, eh?

How about proving there is fraud before exclaiming there is?

And Editec, I agree....all farm subsidies should be looked in to, or better yet....ceased.

No it's not fraud, a subsidized farming industry helps in creating a stable farming infrastructure and farms are important if you wish to continue eating.

BTW over 70 percent of Texas farmers do not receive farm subsidies.

Fraudulent farm subsidies?

That is a term that is redundant if you think like a Randian.

To a Randian all farm subsidies are fraud.

I don't know if I agree with that, but Willow, based the your hard line you take on socialism, and capitalism, you ought to be agreeing with me, not whining about what I wrote.

You want some examples of what I mean?

Here:

Consider Vicky Hartzler of Missouri, who courted tea party support and dethroned the chairman of the House Armed Service Committee, Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton.

Hartzler and her husband own a farm equipment business and a farm where they grow corn and soybeans. She received more than $770,000 in farm subsidies over the past 15 years, according to the Environmental Working Group, a Washington advocacy group that collects and analyzes farm subsidy data.

GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, an outspoken critic of farm payments, listed between $15,000 and $50,000 in farm income as one source of revenue on her personal financial disclosure statement last year, citing a Bachmann family farm in Independence, Wis., as an asset.
That farm, which was owned by her father-in-law, received more than $250,000 in subsidies over the past 15 years, according to the Environmental Working Group. A Bachmann spokesman said she is not involved in any operational decisions.

South Dakota Republican Kristi Noem, who ousted Democratic Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, had partial ownership in a ranch that received more than $3 million in subsidies over 15 years, though her family bought her out last year.

Farmer and gospel singer Stephen Fincher won an open seat House race in Tennessee this year while both railing against federal spending and deflecting criticism that his family had received $3.2 million in federal farm subsidies in the past 10 years.

Now there's three good examples of your hard headed GOP tea party capitalists who are also SUCKING ON THE GOVERNMENT TEAT.

Like I said, we really ought to be looking at ALL farm subsidies and asking ourselves if they really make sense.

Some of them certainly might.

Others might be nothing but WELFARE FOR CORPORATIONS

I hate to tell you yu izz as stupid as yankeeedud but you izz,, this is not about subsidies.

For the ignorant:

Seems some of you have no idea the importance of farm subsidies so let me try to explain.

Farm subsidies are key to a stable food supply and low prices. The subsidies are not designed to be a windfall for farmers but to support farmers when commodities fall below certain levels. They are not permanent income, payments stops when prices rise above a specified level.

Bottom line is you can't have lower food cost without a constant food supply and you can't have a constant supply without subsidies.

FTR, G.W. Bush tried to end federal farm subsidies, but failed.

They are paid to 'not' grow food, not given support to grow food.
