A Big Thank You to All Military Personnels/Veterans and Families

I really did it for the money.

Lots of people join for the same reason. Thank you for your service!

Actually, I had always wanted to be a soldier because almost every member of my family has served during the Revolution and ever since. I was born before WWII and grew up during it and Korea. I joined in 1957 at $78 per month and retired in 1977 at $1100 per month. The pay was meager but adequate. I did it out of love for this country.

Hossfly fought at the Battle of La Drang Valley in 1965. He saw a lot of men killed on both sides. We are very fortunate to have such a man on this board who we can question about that war. He saw it first hand. Many of his comrades died in their 20's and aren't here to tell their tales.

I hate comparing a real battle with a movie but if you want to get a taste of what he went through, watch the Mel Gibson movie "We Were Soldiers". That's Hossfly's battle.

Nobody did that for any amount of money. He was just pulling your leg.

STFU man. Hate the evil bastards running the government if you want, but there are a lot of grunts who would die to save you, and who sacrifice a lot for that opportunity.

I would make you a feast if I lived close to you.

Nah, not to save me or you pud; to advance the reach of the empire, to extract the wealth and resources of other societies, to topple and destabilize other governments, and to keep Wall Street from coming after the public again for more socialism. Your “evil bastards” merely carry out the bidding of the donor class.

Throughout history there have been countries with a strong military or weak/ nonexistent military. Who do you think survived?
Recent history shows us that the world is not speaking German everywhere because the US joined world war II.

Freedom of any form comes with a cost.

A friend of mine has no country because his country had a joke of a military. It was taken over by a more powerful neighbor.

Yes, sometimes militaries are used to further a cause but that does not mean the individual men and women are to blame.
