A big rain .....

Upstate New York was inundated yesterday. We must have gotten about 4-6 inches of rain, easily.

A state of emergency has been declared in my native Broome County and neighboring counties and people are being evacuated.

It's now actually somewhat sunny (at this moment) in patches and it looks as if the worst is over.

The storm is moving east, so those in New York City, Boston and other areas to the east of Broome County can expect to see the same conditions today.

The good news is this storm occured when the temps were high, otherwise the snowfall would have paralyzed the N.E.

When I was a teen, back in the 1970s, Binghamton was said to be the 2nd cloudiest city in the U.S..... right after, you guessed it, Seattle

The good news is this storm occured when the temps were high, otherwise the snowfall would have paralyzed the N.E.

I heard that, too....

this would have made the Blizzard of March 1993 seem tame by comparison

(4-6 inches of rain translates to about 36-60 inches of snow)

The situation is much worse than I first thought. A local hospital and at least two nursing homes have been as have many homes in the area. Entire neighborhoods are currently flooded. Many are living without power and residents of some areas must boil their water.

I'm very grateful that neither I nor anyone close to me has been affected.
